Thread: 3s strategy guide by brady

  1. As far as fighting games go, xbox is really not getting that much more.

PS2 still has more 2D in the US than Xbox.

On topic, I'm waiting for the xbox version, and might get the guide then. I'd probably lose it under a pile of junk if I bought it now.

Isuka might make it over here on Xbox. Just letting any interested party know.

On topic, I tried some of the stuff in the guide on a version 1 street fighter 2 board and all the SF2 stuff seems to apply. I might just play the original until the collection comes out on Xbox.

  4. I got the guide earlier today. I only skimmed through the SF2 stuff, but I'm amazed at how much information is in the 3S section. They explain why they recommend a super art over the others, go into advanced strategies (including kara cancelling), and give favorable and unfavorable matchups for each character. Excellent book. I've learned some new things and will unearth my DC version to practice once again.

I have two complaints though. The art gallery in the book is nice, but the quantity of art throughout the book does not match the number in Versus Book's superlative Alpha 2 book. Also, the 3S soundtrack included in this book is the exact same one as the one offered by Mars Colony. So not only is there no third round DC remix, but the sound quality is still horrible.

    Regardless, still worth the $20.

You must be crazy, since the cover boldly states that the soundtrack was NEVER AVAILABLE IN THE US BEFORE.

I have the Mars soundtrack, too. Yeah, they both have shit quality.

Take away the games that suck ass from your list and you're left with... umm nothing.

  7. I just got my copy a couple of minutes ago....Ill post up my two cents later tonight.

Remember kids, my opinion is the only one that matters.

  8. Strategy guide is awesome, not much that I haven't seen before (besides the frame listings) but it's so damn nice and handy to have everything in one easy location that I can flip through at any time. I love being able to check out startup and recover times for my opponents by just flipping through a couple pages, this is what a fighting game strategy guide should be.

Working on learning Urien yet again, though I seem to be actually retaining my progress this time around. Been using my homemade stick for the last week but I picked up a Pelican Universal Ultimate Arcade Stick (or whatever) so that the transition from playing on the PS2 to the Xbox would be smooth as can be (plus the base is awesome). Question: Can I replace the stick and buttons with little hassle? It seems like I could but I haven't popped it open yet, not the biggest deal if I couldn't as it's still pretty good, just not as good as actual arcade parts.

P.S. I suck at parrying with a stick, I think I'm even worse at that then I was learning to parry with a pad. It feels so horrible knowing when my friend is going to do an air attack, trying to parry it and being perfect with the timing but still failing every time because I can't tap the stick properly.

  9. I wish the Soundtrack CD was a mix of SFII and SFIII tracks

Yeah, the buttons are easy to do with or without soldering. I'd recommend not soldering it, but then you'll need to pick up some parts at the local hardware store (I can probably tell you exactly what they're called when I get home, PM me if you still care later). The stick is kind of a hassle, since you might have to drill holes to get the stick in place, and it's a little tough to get it oriented just right... you want left to be left, you know?

IMO, it takes forever to get from a neutral position to a direction trigger on the Pelican stick. That's part of why I didn't like it.
