Thread: Alien Hominid

  1. The Gamecube version only just came in this morning, at least around here, so if you're feeling optimistic hit up your local game store tomorrow and ask. Small as the title is, and swamped as wherever you happen to shop was today, I seriously doubt it made the shelves.

  2. After even more playing I have to say this is the best 2D sidescrolling run n' gun on the PS2....if you don't count the PS1 version of Metal Slug X that technically is also on the PS2. I still have a big problem with all of the filler and the unnessecary length, but I'll live.

Did anybody else get a huge smile on their face when they freed the sasquach in Russia and got to play a mini game of Rampage?

This is what killed the game for me.

That, and the ability to start on any level you want with a full set of lives and continues. Maybe Metal Slug 3 spoiled me, or maybe, just maybe, it was the fact I had to fight tooth, nail, and claw to make progess in that game, just to see the next level, and I had to LEARN the game as opposed to just rushing through it.

Plus, the fact that I don't ever feel a sense of challenge in the game, and that there are about 8 types of powerups that factor into play for 5-10 seconds a piece. Should have just kept the exploder, flamethrower, ice gun, and maybe one other.

The game could have been so much better with 5 or 6 stages of good length. The bosses are pretty inventive in their own right, and the entire game shows me that these guys have what it take to make something surpassing all run n guns as we know it, but Alien Hominid is far from it.

  4. Just scored it yesterday. My EB had a few copies when I happened in. I haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet though, I don't want to until I beat MGS3.

I got a copy for my brother, and I was very impressed. I'll be picking it up on Xbox in February.

  6. This game sucks. The art reminds me of Invader Zim (I'm not a fan) and it animates like those games I see advertised on tv for the Fox Kids website. No thanks. The patterns are horribly simple but clunky controls make it harder. I swear it controls like a NES side-scroller, which doesn't mean bad, but just not as polished as later 2d action games.

Honestly, I can only see being hard-up on 2d games getting anyone to buy and enjoy this. There's hundreds of better games for the genre already out there that I've barely touched that deserve playing.

Since I'm stuck taking the online route, has anyone here ordered a copy straight from the game's official website? If so, how fast was the shipping process?

Edit: Just so there's no confusion, I'm talking about the Gamecube version, not the relatively easy to find PS2 version.

Yeah I've seen an assload of copies of the PS2 version everywhere but NO ONE in the area got in any copies of the Gamecube rev

I'm probably gonna have to order from their website and I hate paying shipping and handling

As of today, the GC version is still backordered on Behemoth's official store. They're using some other company to handle the orders, so they still need to get product shipped to the people operating the store. I managed to find AH at an EB this weekend, so I cancelled my order. Try to contact them, they might have an estimate of when they'll get their stock.

I never understand this complaint. If there's a way you'd like to play that would make it more entertaining for you, why don't you just play that way? I haven't finished it since I always start at the beginning...I might change that as, 16 levels is a bit much for one sitting.

You nailed the exact reason why.

I'd rather not play through all the filler levels, 16 levels is way too much for a game like this. I'd rather they just made 7 or 8, and made each level twice as long and a bit more challenging.
