Thread: Collateral - Official

  1. Collateral - Official

Collateral stars Jamie Foxx (Max) as a veteran cab driver and Tom Cruise (Vincent) as a crazed assassin. The story is that Vincent gets into Max's cab and pays a large fair for him to drive him around all night. Max accepts this challenge, unaware that Vincent is actually a crazy taxi-driver. He finds out and I'm sure hilarious antics will ensue. This is a drama.

Anyway, enough of the story and on with the discussion. This movie looks awesome and has been getting positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. I personally think it looks amazing, action wise.

Jamie Foxx looks like he plays an amazingly convincing role and breaks away from his typical black comedian role. Cruise' conviction and attitude in the commercials look great as well. I can't wait to see it.

And, yes, I know that there's a lot of people who hate Tom Cruise, apparently for the fact that he's Tom Cruise. Okay, we get it. Leave that shit out of the thread. If you don't like Cruise you're not going to like this. We get the point, you don't even have to make it.

  2. I like Tom Cruise of the past few years, who is in interesting movies like Eyes Wide Shut, Minority Report, The Last Samurai, Vanilla Sky, and Magnolia. And this movie looks like one more to add to the list. It looks excellent and Michael Mann is a great director. The dude's trying really hard to become a serious actor, and he's succeeding. I dont know why more people dont realize this.

  3. Have you seen the Ray trailer yet? Seriously, he rules in that too. Jamie Foxx is talented, although he'll make a lot of people upset because his comedic personality is similar to that of Will Smiths.

This looks like simple dirty fun. In the add Vincents briefcase is stolen by two hombres. They start taunting him as he walks towards them. "Oh, holmes, you want your briefcase back?" They don't show the results, but you KNOW he pulls out the guns and kills them. This looks great and unique, which is why I started this thread.

Also, I really believe the Tom Cruise hate around here and in general is unjust. Some people hate Tom Hanks because he's Tom Hanks, but anybody who gives us Saving Private Ryan AND Band of Brothers is a fucking genius, end of story.

  4. This is definately a movie I want to see. I wanted to make an official thread, but Andrew beat me to it.

I agree that Mann is a great director, and Heat is a definite crime masterpiece. I also enjoyed Last of the Mohicans and ManHunter. I havent seen either Ali or Insider but many enjoyed them as well.

I was not a big fan of Cruise, but he was excellent in Last Samurai, and look like this will continue a good tradition.

I will post some more clips from the movie in the minute

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this. Not too many people do criminal/cop drama's like Michael Mann does. The whole plot sounds interesting too. Assassin needs to make five stops, cabbie starts to figure out what's going on... And I'm 100% convinced the action in this movie will rule all.

I've never understood the Tom Cruise hate. Sure, he's made some fluff over the years, but he's done some cool stuff early on too.

  9. Ebert reviews it, likes it and gives it 3.5 stars:

He doesnt spoil the movie, as when he usually does when he hates the film, and he mentions good performances by Cruise, Smith and especially Jammie Fox.

  10. I've been excited about this since the first trailer. Perhaps I'll see it... tonight!
