I think this is to be expected... umm Microsoft is on board for HD-DVD and Xbox2 will probably be in that.

i for one am very excited about the new format, should be interesting to see how blu-ray will do since i remember reading somewhere that there is a bit of problem at some DVD association where they are trying to decide on a next replacement for the current DVD medium, HD DVD vs Blu-Ray. I say Blu Ray all the way since BD is backward compatible with current DVDs, plus BD hold 25GB on single layer, and 50GB on dual-layer!Sony has revealed that the next console in the PlayStation line will indeed feature the Blu-ray format.
Blu-ray is designed to essentially be the next common disc based storage format, replacing the DVD. Utilizing blue light lasers instead of the now common red ones, the Blu-ray discs manage to hold over five times as much data as an average 4.7GB DVD.
Thirteen major electronics makers said Tuesday that they would be drawing up the final specifications for a read-only Blu-ray system by September 30th, and plan to market the Blu-ray players by the end of the 2005 fiscal year.
Sony is planning to show off the outline of the PlayStation 3 by March 31st next year and considering the Blu-ray's ability to read the existing DVD format, backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 titles can be expected.
Sony is obviously trying to force it down everyone throat by purchasing a PS3 and making BD the next format. I'm all for it since i wanna enjoy my games and movie in HD.
anyways, so like.....please discuss!![]()

Not that I'm complaining about more space or anything, but who is going to come up with 50 gigs of content for a game?
I think it's pretty stupid to have to force another medium on consumers, dvd is just fine.

with sony being the only one to use bd i think that will put them ahead of microsoft in the next gen console wars. cause bd can hold a crap load of stuff. just think of a next gen GTA with every building and every room deataild to the last notch. so every game on the ps3 will be huge.
Well not every game will be huge. There will still be developers that will do rushed games with hardly any scale to them at all. It all depends on how the developers use the technology.....

And they will cost $1B to produce to that level of detail.Originally Posted by BURN007
I'm excited about it on the movie front, but as far as gaming goes it's not a big deal. I doubt if most developers will really use it honestly. It's a step in the right direction though.
