But when there are legal advantages to getting married, two consenting adult humans shouldn't be denied.
I don't think Churches should be forced to perform them, though. There's nothing wrong with getting married by a Justice of the Court.
Bush actually had ads like that against Cain when he was running against him for the nomination. Stuff about him "betraying the country" while he was a POW.Originally Posted by DOVESKI

I congratulate anyone who could get out of Nam. Unless, of course, they grow up to become President and decide that millions of young men should do what they did not.

Right, but gays can't even do that, they're stuck with the unrecognized religious ceremony.Originally Posted by Misfit

Absolutely not.Wouldn't writing a constitutional ban be, in essence, writing discrimination into the constitution?
As it stands, gay people have EXACTLY THE SAME RIGHTS as straight people. They have the right to get married... to someone of the opposite sex. However, they choose not to, they say, "Im gay so let me marry someone of the same sex". Theyre asking for new rights, especially for them. Thats a whole other can of worms.
Too many people have been fooled into thinking that if the government bans same-sex marriages, then gay people are being discriminated against or not being treated equal or something. It's simply not the case at all. The gay lobby and gay organizations have been very successful at fooling people, though.
I mean, if I said, "I dont like alcohol, so I wanna smoke crack. I want it to be legal for people who dont like alcohol to smoke crack", what would you think? Doesnt that sound, I dont know, a little bit stupid?
Think about it.
edit: Im not voicing support/opposition to gay marriage in this post. Im simply trying to get the facts right so a debate could be productive in the future.

The right to marry the same sex wouldn't be limited to gay people. Straight people could gay marry too, you know!
Sound stupid? Well, yeah, it is, because there's no reason for straight people to gay marry. Yes, I agree that in a purely legal sense, gay people have the same rights as straight people when it comes to marriage, but the legal reality is quite different from the social reality.
I think The Meach and Diffusionx should get married or at least meet up for some heavy petting followed by a lot of self-loathing in a seedy hotel on the wrong side of town. They have a lot in common!
