Hey, I tried like hell to get into the game after hearing so much about it. I thought it was an absolute snoozefest. Different strokes, I guess.

  2. Chrono Cross was great, except for the stupid one-sentence endings for my party members. That shit was infuriating.
    Time for a change

So if I'm reading you right: Including extras that don't affect the story are bad and not including extras makes a game better? You confound me.

And what exactly did CT set up? CC ties up a loose end from CT which is part of an almost totally unrelated journey. The only thing it "wrecked" regarding CT was people who wanted a direct CT2. God forbid a world should actually have some depth to it, there are other people besides Crono walking around.

    You're wierd. [/little kid]

  4. I would argue the merits of CC here, but honestly if I have to participate in another "merits of CC" debate on a message board I'm going to barf.

CC is the best console RPG ever made. If you don't agree you have shitty taste in RPGs.

Hell I might as well put that in my sig. Save myself the trouble in the future.

Loved it from start to finish.

Grandia 2 (DC, never played the PS2 rev but I've heard the graphics are awful in comparison, it's glitchy as hell, and is prone to freezing/crashing) was such a boring game, I was beyond disappointed. I tried so hard to like that game, and so hard to finish it, but I gave up about halfway through. It was just too boring and stupid, despite the nice battle system and snazzy graphics.
i agree 100% with every word, my shoegazer-enjoying friend. except i never finished saturn grandia (save file got erased at 45 hours)... and i did finish the ever-bland grandia 2 on DC.

Heh... don't look at me, I barely even remember what the hell CC was about. I'm just saying, it's a common complaint I've heard.

Ah, okay. By and large it seems to be that if someone didn't like CC it's because they wanted a CT2 with Crono, Marle, Lucca, and Robo once again travelling. It's not that that can't be great but it blinded a lot of people, so when they didn't get a traditional sequel they felt robbed because they were unwilling to look at anything in the Chrono world from a different point of view. Shame really, because that very notion is one of the things that made CC such a great sequel.

If there are so many arguments about the merits of CC, how is it the best console RPG ever?

CC was pretty good, but I'd hesitate to say it's the best console RPG. Chrono Trigger at least matches it in terms of overall quality, if not exceeds; FF6 and FF7 are pretty big contenders, and then there are the DQ games... and so on, and so forth.

No I am saying that if they took the effort of all those extras, out them into 11 or so characters instead of 40, I would have liked it more. What I am saying is that the story of each character was spread too thin because of the effort focusing on 40 or so characters.

    Does that make sense?
