    Does that make sense?
None in the slightest. They did put all the effort into a primary group of characters, the rest were just people that decided to help. Not every person has some huge life-threatening deal as to why they want to help others or join those who are fighting to save the world. If the entire cast had been that way, sure, I could see your problem, but they weren't. There was a focus on the few that the story revolved around and then there were those who tagged along for the ride, not every soldier who fights in a war is doing so because of a personal relation to who they're up against.

Er. What, the part about it not being a tradtional sequel?

What Damian's saying makes perfect sense, in my opinion. The large cast of characters in CC was one of my gripes with the game as well... I would've preferred Square focused on fleshing out the main cast even more, rather than cramming in a bunch of bonus charcters just for the sake of having bonus characters. RPG's are all about story, it kind of detracts from the overall experience to have a bunch of one dimensional characters following your hero around.

Now your "sword/stick" analogy, that doesn't make sense. Weapons aren't the main focus of the game, they can afford to be shallow and plentiful.

  3. They did put all the effort into a primary group of characters
I think we will have to agree to disagree on that point.

I feel different, but then, I also enjoy SRPGs and Suikoden.

Extra characters in combat that aren't part of the story are extra weapons. The story - which is the main focus - continues regardless of who you're currently equipped with (exclusion with Kid in certain locations).

Whether or not you liked the effort is a different matter.

I appreciate the effort that went into the game, but I think they made soem bad design choices like having 40 characters. Story does have some ties with CT(which I never got). I actually did beat CC a second time now that I think about it. You go to beat lavos as early as possible at that beach with the egg to get the best ending ringht?

EDIT: Hey I hated Zelda tOoT yet loved MM so i have some weird tastes.

It's been a while since I played CT so I can't remember exactly what it was between Schala and Kid, but here on GameFAQs if you scroll down to Story Guide it'll explain all the connections. There was also a lot of little things like the house from CT with Robo, the letter from Lucca, and so on.

The best ending is done with using the right combination of the Chrono Cross on Lavos, which I think can be done at any time, even your first time through.

  7. THat is correct. ... ... SHIT I need to go play through again!

  8. Heh, a guy asks for opinions about games he's obviously never played, and now one of them is getting spoiled left and right.

Oh well. I never liked Chrono Cross, and it has nothing to do with Chrono Trigger. I just never cared about any of the characters and the plot was pretty dull to me. I enjoyed the battle system but it wasn't enough to keep me playing.

  9. After all these nice things about FFIX I just bought the Japanese version on ebay for $1.29. Even if I end up hating it, who cares. It was only $1.29. That has to be the least amount I've ever payed for a game.

  10. Oh crap, I don't know what the heck I was thinking when I wrote that. Sorry.

Ah yes, now I remember. That thing was ridiculously hard to pull of and you pretty much had to pray that you were lucky to do it.

Ps thanks for the edit sleeveboy
