That's a value judgment my friend. The person speaking in tongues may not understand what they are saying, but if it makes them feel closer to God (which is extremely important in most, if not all Christian paradigms) then "speaking in tongues" does indeed have value.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

And reread the first epistle of John regarding the triune nature of God. This fact is mentioned all throughout the Bible.

glad to see im not the only one who thought Talking Heads

  5. It's nothing more than mass hysteria. You bring people into a confined space, create the right atmosphere, convince them something greater than them is occurring and you can use that power to mold the people any way you like. Hitler did the same thing at those huge Nazi rallies with the music, parades, and fiery speeches. A visit to a Pentecostal Church is good for a sociology lesson, but little else.
    Time for a change

Feeling closer to God is pretty fucking important in every religion, and people have gone to great lengths to do this for thousands of years.

Just backing your point up, playa.

My theory on everything is that absolute truth is unattainable, since reality is based on perception.
But what if absolute truth was based on perception, too? For example, what makes a chair a chair? Is it the actual object - the back, the seat, the four legs, or is it the perception we have of what a chair is? Nah mean?
