Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn Wayans have struck a deal with Universal Pictures to take the 1960s television show about a family of friendly monsters who never quite get why people react in terror to them and give it a 21st-century makeover.

The deal calls for the three Wayanses to write the screenplay as well as produce along with Rick Alvarez. There is a possibility that Keenen Ivory Wayans would direct, though no deal is in the works without a finished script.

"The Munsters" aired on CBS from 1964-66. The Wayans version will stay true to the original characters, but will place them in a contemporary setting.

Sources said the Wayans came up with the idea for a "Munsters" redo while in Canada filming their recently released collaboration "White Chicks." Coincidentally, Universal also had been tossing around ideas for an update on the property, so the brothers polished their take and took it to the studio.

Although specific dollar figures were not disclosed, sources described it as a very lucrative deal for the Wayanses.

The deal marks the first time the brothers have taken on a screen adaptation, since their previous efforts have based on original ideas. Shawn and Marlon teamed to write "Scary Movie," "Scary Movie 2" and "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood." They teamed with Keenen Ivory to pen "Chicks."
Hmm... not sure if this is a good idea...

  2. Oh hells no. It better not star them, like that has a chance of not happening.

Herman is the greatest, I can't imagine anyone replicating the original actor's goofy, charmingly oafish brilliance.

  3. ...wow. Who would any of them play?

  4. This will suck just like every other Wayans movie.

The munsters will be transformed into a normal black family in a white neighborhood. It will be social commentary.

  6. You mean Scary Movie 1-2.

They didn't do 3 and it was actually kinda funny.

  7. I can't imagine this being good in the least.

  8. I hated watching the "Munsters today" show back in the day cause it was the only thing on. This movie will only invite horrid memories.

    Read the article.

The Wayans are "updating" the Munsters to the "21st century".

Which means adding in black people and ghetto jokes.

Don't be a Menace is a straight up funny ass movie though.
    R.I.P Kao Megura (1979-2004)

  10. On behalf of black people across the country, I would like to apologize in advance.
