I saw the trailers, but I can't figure out what this movie is about. Anybody care to explain?

Watch Kung Fu Hustle when it comes to your locale. @_@ It was worth every penny.

It was so fucking funny and at the same time the action was spectacular. Right now I daresay it's better than Shaolin Soccer in terms of laughs, action, and camp.

Struck me as more of a parody of the Matrix trilogy + CTHD + gangster films more than anything. The "charm" that was in Shaolin Soccer is there too.


summary
Basically it seems to be set in the 1920's, what with the gangster theme and all. This local axe-wielding gang is harrassing a slum community run by a dysfunctional landlady and her fruity husband. Little does the gang know that the slum houses a few retired kung fu masters. Stephen Chow's character, on the other hand, is a bum who inherited a kung fu manual from a hermit. He shows potential but often fails and is a total idiot at anything that isn't kung fu. He feels that he has to be a bad guy to be "tough", and decides to join the said gang. Little does he know he *does* have the potential to be the most powerful.

Yadda yadda, I'll leave it at that, saying anything more would really ruin the fun. It has to be seen. You won't be disappointed. ^_^

Watch out for the parody of Spider-Man. They parodied Uncle Ben's death scene. Make sure you get the subtitled version, it comes into play as well. "With great power, comes great responsibility"!

My favorite characters were those musician hitmen with the lethal string instrument (reminiscent of the Twins from Reloaded IMO, hehe). The odd landlord-landlady couple who are actually retired kung fu "geniuses" are bad either.
