Serenity: Firefly hits the big screen

Sure, people in the know would get more out of it but as a whole it worked on two levels.

I really like The Operative. He was just really cold. Hopefully this movie does well enough to warrant the rebirth of the series, or at least a sequel.

yeah, this is true, it did work on two levels, but It felt like every other sci-fi film where bit characters bite it because its convenient to get rid of them. (again only taking the world of the film into consideration). Joss Whedon excels at that sort of thing, so it was sad to see it have to go because of the limitations of the format.. anyway, we're running around in circles at this point.

The Operative was very neat though, i agree. Reminded me a little of Juble (sp?) Early from the last ep in that they were very rigid and defined in their roles, performances, ennunciation and philosophy. They also get some great dialogue. Though the operative was given more redeemable qualities than Early.

See the movie. There are a few differences but don't miss it on the big screen. Watch the movie and then go buy the series for cheap and watch it and you'll be in the know. It's worth it.

Was there any mention of the comic that fills the gap between this and the series? If not, I'd start looking around a bit.

Saw it Friday and really liked it. Although I agree it loses some resonance if you havent seen the series but all in all it was really great.

Didn't do too too hot at the box office. Oh well... it was good while it lasted. Sci-fi should pony up the money for 10 episode seasons like they do with Battlestar. Such an awesome show / movie.

Exceeded my expectations, for one. All the initial showings here sold out... didn't see that one coming. It's the #2 movie in the country right now. Also didn't see that.
