Not anymore. I have had two Japanese PS2s, but with Western developers surpassing their Japanese counterparts during this generation, the extra expense and space needed seems pointless.

I've got a Japanese one. One of those GT4 LEs.

Sony loves to keep a bunch of their stuff over there for whatever reason. They have a new(ish) game called Chaindive, and it's very surprising to see it not planned for a US release, as it is a game I think would sell fairly decently. Flipnic, which is a really cool "adventure pinball" game did get a Euro release, but that was as far West as it came.
It actually seems to be getting better though (as far as % of playable games that come here). Of course, I said "surprisingly large", not "most".
You're forgetting the love sim genre and its relatives. Love sims are best when mixed with strategic battles. You know, hit on the "hunnies" a bit, then go battle some monsters or mechs. Ahhh, pure gaming bliss... XDOriginally Posted by Roufuss
I own the plain black versions of a US and J-PS2. They're stacked on top of each other like one universal mega-console with 2 disc drives.

I've got a Japanese PS2, mostly for Bemani stuff, and those few import PS1 and PS2 games that I really need. (Vib Ribbon, for example.)

Yup. Shmups and Bemani.
Seeing as how all I ever play anymore are shmups and bemani (with GBA games sprinkled in) my modded PS2 is pretty important.![]()
Like the PSX, the only imports on the PS2 that interest me are the wrestling games, and none of them compell me to spend the money to get the system modded. When a simple boot disc is out, then I'll give them a shot.

I've got a jPS2 that I picked up mainly for #Reload when it first came out, and it did come with GT4 Prologue. I've been playing a lot of Beatmania on it recently though.
Messiah 2 modded PS2, courtesy of Matt.
I have a JPS2 for shmups and IIDX, and that's probably all it'll ever be used for, unless I decide to try Pop'n. There are a few other games I have for it, but now that I have access to a US system, I'm not buying any imports for a while. Or until November.
