    WWE Crush Hour announced

Well this has to be one of the oddest uses for a license ever: THQ and Jakks Pacific has announced that WWE Crush Hour, a vehicular combat game, is set for release on the Playstation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube. The title will be developed by THQ subsidary Pacific Coast Power & Light Co.

"THQ's goal with `WWE Crush Hour' is to extend the World Wrestling Entertainment license to the growing action genre while offering a new and unique gaming experience that appeals to wrestling fans and action gamers alike," said Don Traeger, president, Pacific Coast Power & Light Co. "`WWE Crush Hour' takes all of the attitude and drama of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand and blends it with intense vehicular combat to create a compelling gaming experience."

WWE Crush Hour will feature over thirty WWE superstars, including Hollywood Hulk Hogan's sports car, Big Show's big rig, The Rock's luxury sports car, and Stone Cold's jacked up monster truck, among others. Players will blast through 12 arenas as they compete in multiple match types such as ladder and hardcore. Jim Ross himself will provide the play-by-play commentating during the matches, and each superstar will have his own set of taunts degrade their opponents with.

"We developed these fantasy vehicles by working closely with World Wrestling Entertainment to ensure true to character development and storyline," said Peter Dille, vice president, marketing, THQ. "If the Rock(R) is going to get behind the wheel of a sports car personalized especially for him, we want to make sure that all of his attitude and personality is accurately portrayed in the vehicle."

WWE Crush Hour is set for an early 2003 release. For now, check out these two screens.

  2. Let me be the first to say that this is the dumbest idea for a game ever. And that's saying a lot, with history like Taboo and Sunday Funday.

  3. Apparently Wrestling fans also like vehicular combat with a WWF/E twist?

Thats what they said about football and the XFL.

  4. Every other company should just halt game development now. I mean, mixing the attitude and drama of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand and blending it with intense vehicular combat to create a compelling gaming experience? Genius! Game of the year, I don't even need to play it.

Btw - wrestling somehow just got even gayer.

THQ should be focusing their efforts on making their actual wrestling games better, and not wasting their time creating shitty games like this.

Im guesing their inspiration for this cam after watching Hallowean Havoc a few years back when Hogan and The Giant fought each other in Monster Trucks and The Giant fell off a building..........AND LIVED!

  7. Damnit you fools, I don't think you realize how great this is!

If a game like this does well, it will open the door for the game I REALLY wanna see.

WWF Betrayal was a great idea, and one I always wanted to see, but since it was on GBC, it sucked. However, imagine if they got to make a game like that on a regular home console, or hell, even GBA. I would LOVE to be able to play a Streets of Rage style game where you get to control the likes of Steve Austin walking down the street beating up random ninja thugs, and blasting them with the Stone Cold Stunner. You could use little beercans as powerups, and even have bonus levels where you drive Stone Colds monster truck, or a forklift or something. You could make it 4 player and have unique moves for the likes of Big Show (power guy), Hurricane (superpowers), and Booker T (SPIN-A-ROONIE!!!)

Hell, even the big WWE RPG could be awesome! You could run your own promotion, step into the shoes of either Flair or McMahon as you try to put the other company out of business!

Word on the street was that Naughty Dog was at one point approached by both EA and THQ about doing WWE Kart Racing games! That could come back in the future! Couldn't be any worse than Woody Woodpecker racing!

  8. It's coming soon...

  9. Steve Austin walking down the street beating up random ninja thugs, and blasting them with the Stone Cold Stunner.
wasn't this an angle a few years back ?

  10. My friend was actually in the focus group for this game a few months ago. The verdict?

"Someone finally made a game worse then Twisted Metal 3. Kudos"

    Ouch.
