Thread: The Venture Brothers

  1. Tried to bit of research on this Jackson Publick gentelman, that is, the man that created, directs, and writes the Venture Bros. Turns out he did work on The Tick. Wish I could find more(and better..) info, but here is a report from a convention that the folks at Adult Swim hosted during Comic-Con '04. For Jackson's interveiw, scroll to about half of the pages size, or until you see:

    Jackson Publick III: [something, something]

and go from there. Unfortunatly, his limelight is cut short when a kid gets pegged in the eye by the chocolate that Publick was kind enough to provide.

    Now that that's done...

Again, we get a more story driven ep. vs. the over the top bad guy bustin' that was present in earlier shows. Also, I didn't get too many laughs from this one. During the shows intro, as Race scoffs over his well delivered pun(...yeah, I know) while parchuting, the jet he had torched makes a heavy u-turn and jukes him in the torso. After that, there was a nice little rampage of gags as debris(conveniently) falls over the Venture Compound. But after that run of laughs, you see the recently attacked Race Bannon drifts limp, down on a deserted street and falls motionlessly as his chute continues to blow.
Needless to say, It was the first time I felt that death was meant to be made dramatic instead of a punchline. I took it quite serious. It'll be good to see more intentional inplacations of drama like this.
But anyway, that Bannon issue was the only thing I felt like squeezing out of now. The comedy in tonight's show was fair and steady, but if anything, during some points felt really dark, nearly morbid. Not that I hate that type, I'm just saying...
My new schedule isn't letting me enjoy the show enough.
    Feeling tired..
    Might try again later...
    ..zzzzzzzzzz..

  2. Liked the episode, I'll wax poetic about it tomorrow.

  3. God this show is brilliant, and makes me laugh so hard every week.

The Fantastic Four ripoff was hilarious.

Even down to those uniforms, and that gay ass 4 hand team thing they did, that they also did in the real old 60's cartoon. Brilliant.

And the glowing vagina was the crown of the episode.

  5. Am I he only one who thought Hank with the beard was beyond hilarious? He didn't have to do anything but walk around a look goofy and he was still cracking me up.

  9. It was a really good episode, as usual. Johnny catching fire and screaming was really funny, the best is when he's helping out at the end and he's running around screaming. I recognized Steve Colber as Richard. He's really getting around these days. Another great part is when Sue is talking to Dr, explaining what happened and she's like "Richard got the best of it...he just stretches now." "That is pretty neat." "Now my skin dissappears, Johnny catches fire whenever he comes in contact with oxygen, The Thing is too retarded to know what's going on..."

    The best lines were:

Ms. Impossible: "I'm going to get my things!"

    Brock: "Uh, you wanna just..."

    Dr. Venture: "Yeah. Let's go."
