It's really a shame to see so much good graphical work go down the drain, but I can see why Square-Enix did what it did (After all, Final Fantasy Chronicles just became a greatest hit, what, a year ago?).
At least we got a cool trailer out of it...

No big loss. I dont like how Japanese companies (Nintendo, especially, has pulled shenanigans like this many times before) treat their fans like shit, but really I doubt this was ever going to be finished. They didnt even have an in-game model of Frog, for heaven's sake.

I'm surprised that so many are surprised that they did stop them, it did look cool but the fact remains that any company would've done the same if someone was using their license... that is business period.

Personally it amazes me people do put stuff out like this while working on it, I would imagine they would consider this would happen if they didn't have permission and why they would post it before it was completed and waste all their time... that is just stupid. If they didn't have permission to do it they should've kept it secret till it was done.

And I think wonderboy is PD in the US now, actually. The copyrights lapsed, so I think we're ok. Still I would be really upset if that happened to me. I can feel for these guys.

There are fan-made Phantasy Star games out there that Sega doesn't seem to care about so I think you're safe.
