Thread: Secret of Mana 2, I need help

  1. Funny. I buy new games all the time. I never wait for a game that I want to play to be unavailable for purchase new just so I can steal it. And yet I don't have any problems with emulating games that I can't buy new. "According to your logic" my ass.
The issue in question is "Whats wrong with emulation of a dead system?". And I gave an answer. You personally may not sit there and wait for systems to be "officially dead" to justify your piracy, but where does one draw the line? If it's ok to pirate things from "dead consoles", why isn't it ok for someone to sit there and wait for systems to "die" and do the same?

(My opinion: Emulation is never ok unless you own the game you're emulating. I had no qualms about playing a Megaman 2 ROM because I own the NES cart. I bet there are people who wouldn't even approve of that, but like I said, it's my opinion.)

The logic is "If you steal new games, you're hurting the industry. If you buy used, you're hurting the industry. If you emulate games that can no longer being sold new, you're not hurting the industry." People who use this logic want videogame companies, not Funcoland and sellers on Ebay, to have their money. Waiting for it to go out of production so they can steal it does not give videogame companies their money.
From what I understand, you think that piracy is only bad if it hurts the industry.

Ok, so what if a seller out there was selling CDR's of Sega Saturn games, for instance Radiant Silvergun? SS's is a dead system. RS can not be found new anymore (well, I really doubt it). Is it ok to purchase CDRs of it since the only people getting hurt are generally Ebay sellers?

My definition of piracy is basically, "Having something you're not supposed to have." If only 20,000 copies of Radiant Silvergun were made (not sure of the real numbers, but according to an old SaturnFan mag I had, first week sold only 18k), then the 20,000 people who bought them deserve 'em. Who are you to say that because you want it, and you can't have it, and don't want to support the ebay hounds or whatnot, it's ok to pirate? What about the 20,000 who bought it legitly?

Do I approve of people who will buy things just to sell for more? No, I can't say I do. But the people who bid for those things are responsible for bringing the price so high. Not the sellers.

But I believe your definition of piracy does not do the people who rightfully purchased the games, justice. You may not care about Joe Schmoe who bought RS for $50 when it came out. Or Jane Doe who bought it for $200 last week. But the fact is, just because the gaming industry isn't losing any sales over your act of piracy, the ones getting hurt are those who bought it for real. If a finite number of copies were printed, then only those finite copies should exist (and consequently, a finite number of owners.)

    What about them?

How are they getting hurt? They can still play and enjoy RS even though others are running around with illicit copies of the game. I own many games that I bought new and for full pirce. Other people have bought them for less money or pirated them and played them for free. Yet my enjoyment of the games I own isn't lessened by this.

It's an import game so the entire game is in Japanese and I can't understand anything.

Is there any way to translate the text into English? Are there any translations guides on the net?

I remember people saying in their reviews they played the game in English.

I'm a classic square rpg nut, I want to experience this game, please help.
I do not have the game itself , but I do have a ROM of the game with a patch for the english translation. If you want it, lemme know. My ICQ # is 36133387 . I could send it to you if you want it

I think that he means Secret of Mana 3. Good point though

  5. I dont see the dreamcast as dead as games are still being released for it. On the other hand the SNES is long gone , so no ones losing out. Using pirated ROMs might be illegal , but who wants to conform to some stupid law set by some stupid judge.(or government)
Furthermore , the guy has the original cart......so having the ROM is equivalent to having your own personal backup of the game.
I dont think Im hurting anyone when I download radiant silvergun Iso's except for those Ebay people , who I dont care about. These people either dont care about the game , or have their own backup copies of the game.....
