God bless Criterion. The old DVD for this looked pretty awful, and there were pretty much no extras, while the new DVD is gorgeous and the best supplements you could hope for (my favorite being the featurette on how they made the special effects).
I was also amazed at how well the movie has held up over the years. The themes are still relevant, the effects still hold up amazingly well, and the plot still makes absolutely no fucking sense once you're past the halfway point, though that's obviously part of what makes it so much fun.
Anyone else a fan? And just for kicks, what do you think actually happens?
It's been at least 10 years since I've seen Videodrome, but I remember this movie came out when Blondie ruled (late 70s/early 80s). Young Debbie Harry = Teh Hottness. I first watched this movie just for her, and she delivered with an awesome nipple scene.
I thought the spfx were snazzy, and was appropriately gory and weird, as only Cronenberg can do.
So yeah, I think I might be interested in this Criterion release.
And the scene where she burns her tit with the cigarette is awesome, as is the ear-piercing scene.
Incidentally, one of the extras is the inclusion of all of the footage from the Videodrome show in the movie, with commentary from Cronenberg. Apparantly the extras loved being part of a fake snuff film.
