  2. Yeah, not sure if it's the Betamax, but beta tapes are still used.

"Sony's PSP is at "high risk" of a substantial delay--into next year for Japan, and perhaps all the way to November 2005 for the US market. That's the word from two separate memos sent on consecutive business days from noted industry analysts."

"Meanwhile, Piper Jaffray & Co. paints an even gloomier picture for the PSP's launch ambitions. In a report released today, the securities firm expects the handheld "to launch later than the current March 2005 expectation. First, Sony is usually late with most product introductions…and we are hearing that the platform has other issues such as thermal problems (transistors are running very hot) and a very short battery life (90 minutes) that will almost certainly delay the launch." All this points to a November 2005 launch in the US (possibly alongside the next Xbox system), the report concludes."

  7. When I first heard Sony was designing a handheld system, I figured they were in it for the long haul, and serious about taking a sizable share of Nintendo's market.

It's beginning to seem like they don't have a clue how to design a handheld system. But they should. They're Sony. These are GameGear/Lynx-style mistakes they're making, if not worse.

And being Sony has, what exactly to do with properly designing a handheld gaming device? What products does Sony make that are better than anything else the competition can offer and earns them this lofty status?

I don't think they really want any of the handheld gaming market. I think it is (was?) an attempt at the iPod and portable video player market, added another device to boost MemoryStick sales, and an easy way to sell lots and lots of profitable accessories. Video games just seemed an easy race to win seeing how flawlessly the PS and PS2 have done.

    Or maybe not.

LOL to THAT comment. Just leaves a whole effing year with the DS. Way to go, Sony!
