Thread: Advance Wars DS

  1. Here's the VGPub review for this, which actually went up before 1up's, in a nice change of pace. -

  2. Is there any advantage to a DS setup, rather than this being AW3 on the GBA?

Basically, the AI assigns that the highest priority for a target (Even if you are capping a bldg) and will attack it until destroyed. If you spam APC's and keep them at the front, they will attack those and not the other units (Provided that they don't destroy all the APC's).

This gives you a massive advantage as you'll have full strength units attacking first every time.
Yeah. It was disconcerting when that didn't work in AW2.

As a follow up to earlier comments in this thread: I didn't get a DS at launch, but I did get one for Christmas. This will be the 2nd game I buy for it, though I may just wait until I finish AW2 before I pick this up. I think I should =X

  5. Since I lost my first Advance Wars and don't want to pick up AW2, I'll most likely pick up Advance Wars DS and start from the ground up again.

The only thing I'm a bit disappointed in is the graphics since they are pretty much re-used. Hopefully it'll make some good use of the touch screen too.

  6. Gamespot likes the game more than 1up does. 9.2

I'm beginning to get the impression this game might be fucking excellent. The DS drought is finally over! (well okay, nothing else really exciting comes out until the end of September. But I'm sure this'll tide me over for a couple of weeks.)

Man, that site is fucking Santa Claus with the review scores. According to them the worst game on DS is Zoo Keeper with a 7.0. Everything else is like an 8.

  7. What happened to online play?

Yup, Craig said in his 9.0 IGNDS review that making maps with the stylus is great and very smooth. Also, I wanna say that Craig is a very good editor IMHO from what I have seen, best IGN editor hands down.

IIRC it was just hoped for by fans but was never even hinted at officially by Nintendo.

    Per Gamespot:

Once you're done maneuvering your forces on the main screen, the battle switches over to the second front, where the computer will move your forces by default. However, you can command them yourself if you like. Usually the two fronts are linked somehow, and whoever wins the battle on the second front will gain an advantage on the primary front. You can send units to the secondary front to help guarantee that happening. The dual-screen battles are a nice twist to the tag-battle gameplay that's the mainstay of Advance Wars: Dual Strike.

  10. From what I'm reading, stylus compatibility is the only feature that could not have been duplicated on the GBA.

The "dual front" idea is nice but could have been easily implemented in a GBA sequel. And Wi-Fi without internet connectivity is just a fancy way to play multiplayer.

I'm a huge fan of AW but I'm still not regretting my decision not to buy a DS.
