Thread: Cell phones in the library

  1. Happened to me a few days ago. I was in class and I accidently turned my phone on loud instead of silent. You guys can probably figure out what happened.

  2. Whenever I head to the library, I just put the celly on silent or if I really need to know, Ult. low vibrate. I can understand how you feel. I was in two different libraries at College this week, and I got completely different experiences in both.

The first one was real laid back and people were talking, I could barely get any work done. I'm pretty sure the only person who was really working without a break of concentration was that old asian lady to my left and the punk with the noise reduction headphones behind me. I couldn't do a lick of work and headed to the 2nd and 3rd floors, but it only got worse...

The second library was on the East Wing and was awesome, I've never been to that corner since most of my classes never take place there. Total silence. Unlike the West wing, no one had any cellphones lit up or anything, and everyone was working. I'm going to have to make the longer journey to the East Wing now since I can actually get some notes down. It was pretty awesome too. Here's the 1st floor.

  3. I boycott cell phones.

This is one of the reasons why.

I was all with ya until yesterday morning. Because I didn't have one I had to walk 3 miles to the nearest payphone when my car broke down.

I'm buying one the beginning of next month when I have the scratch.

  5. That or you can:

Reduce your monthly weed spending by 400 and use that for car maintenence.

You know, one of the two.

I haven't smoked pot in 5 months and I haven't bought pot in just over a year.

  7. Holy shit.

That's it, we are all fucking doomed.

  8. I have been in the mood for it lately but I'm gonna wait until I'm on break from school.

MVS and I are in complete, 100% agreement.

Personally, I regard people not being able to call me as a perk when I'm away from home. There's a limited number of places I'll be and everyone I'd want to talk to has those numbers already. If I'm out travelling then whatever it is can most likely wait.

My personal pet peeve with cell phones, because I don't go to the library much, is when I'm ringing someone up and they're chatting away. This wouldn't be a problem but half the time they've asked me a question first. I think next time it happens I'll put their stuff in a pile off to the side and move on to the next person in line until they can pay attention to what they're doing.

"Never whistle while you're pissing." Thank you, Illuminatus.

  10. A cell phone is just too good once you get used to it. I cant live without mine now.

THAT SAID, they go off all the time in the library. In fact, the College Library (there's like 13 libraries on campus, the CL is the main one) is one of the worst places to study on campus, because the noise pollution is insane. I cant even think about studying there unless I have music or earplugs.
