Thread: XBOX 2 and PS3 in 2005?

  1. All I gotta say is lets see the hardware in action before we all believe the new systems are on the way. A graphics demo would be nice.

I'm all for new hardware, if the games are up to snuff. If the games aren't ready when the new hardware is realeased, then it's a waste of time, the smart consumer will know and will hold off. The dumb consumer will buy whatever is new, not enjoy the games, and be pissed that they wasted money on the new console. The dumb consumer will inherrintly (sp) blame the console maker for delivering "crap" (new hardware with no good software) and swears never to buy a new system, therefore taking another person away from gaming.

How does this help the industry? I don't know...you tell me.

PS2 has done pretty well for itself despite this.

Each his own, I've never been pissed off buying a new console. The only console I regret buying was the Ps2, it was great at the time it first came out but as soon as companies started putting out better games on the Xbox(that suit me anyway) I kinda wish I'd never had picked one up. I can't wait to see the 1st Xbox2 live game and how much smoother and better it will be. It's hard to imagine playing live games better than Halo2, Pandora Tommorow, and Rainbow Six 3. Sport and racing games are just going to look insane. Go back and look at one of the last Game Informers and look at the Unreal Engine for the next Gen systems and it looks better than any computer game coming out period.

Nintendo of America's charismatic VP of sales and marketing Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that the company is aiming to launch its next home console in the same timeframe as Sony's PS3, and attacked Microsoft's "rush" to the next generation.

"Our focus is this: we will bring Revolution to the marketplace roughly at the same time as the competition," Fils-Aime told US website IGN. "We are driving our timetables based on what we believe Sony will do."

While Nintendo may be watching Sony to work out when to jump on the next generation, the company is less sold on Microsoft's approach. "Not that I want to ignore the Xbox," Fils-Aime qualified, "but certainly we believe that a rush to a new system is a mistake."
I guess I should have stopped reading at the word "charismatic".

I'm not sure why Nintendo is targeting MS specifically in this instance since it seems pretty appearent that PS3/XB2 will be out around the same relative time frame.

Oh and of course it isn't a problem to release three major handheld hardware types within five years.

  5. I won't be crying if new consoles come out in 6 months - a years time. It'd be stupid for MS to do that, but its not like you have to buy it.

    Are YOU insane? ;-p

Of course they could have been done on PS1. Obviously the graphics would have to be downgraded a bit but yeah they could be done. All you need is decent 3D hardware on ps1 - check ; doesnt have to be ultra powerful) and two you need (well maybe anyway) analog sticks on the controllers (on ps1 - check)

No, of course, the next generation of systems aren't going to be the end-all of game hardware. But I think that starting with the next generation of consoles, 3D games will finally start to have the chance to get serious about doing what they want to do. At least, I'm hoping so.
Yeah, like even more realistic lighting!

I'd love to see a 2d game that uses all of the current generations resources. no need for uber-lighting or crazy physics to take up precious power which could be used for more bullets or enemies...
