I saw it for the third time last night. Every time I have seen it, the part of the movie that kills me the most is the four masters confronting Sidious. It makes me cringe each time, especially when Mace gets fried.

Adding to what I just posted:

Mace was completely arrogant. We know that his original intention, before Anakin telling him that Palpatine is Sidious, was going to inform the Chancellor about Obi-Wan killing General Grievous. After that Mace was like, we're taking care of this stay here. He took Kolar, Tiin and Fisto with him, and despite them being Masters, they were unprepared for what they were about to face. Even Mace, after fighting very well, didn't realize what he was truly up against. He just wanted Sidious's head. If he was smart he would have taken more Masters and perhaps some Knights with him. The numbers could have turned the tide of that fight; however, the Masters that did go were on the High Council, basically the best of the best. Mace should have thought it through more. If he took a moment to realize the entire sinister plot Sidious had devised then surely he could have realized that he was up against a Sith Lord capable of confusing and undermining the entire Republic.

I think that in a wierd way, if Mace allowed Anakin to go with him, and Anakin saw how the whole battle and confrontation went down before he got there, then he would not have so easily been drawn to Palpatine.

Yep. Can't turn Anakin to the darkside without him doing some dark deeds. Like, say, slicing his fellow Jedi Mace in half.

I really dont think Sidious was setting Mace up for Anakin like that though.He still had Anakin wrapped around his finger for the whole 'Dark Side can save Amidala' argument.Ever hear the saying, "Evil can flourish if good people do nothing"?I think his plan was to keep Anakin leashed, unable to help his fellow Jedi as Operative 66 went into place. That alone would give him the guilt needed to twist him, probably not as much as killing Mace, but still....

He wasn't anywhere near death, he goes on to do Force lightning like 80 more times in the course of the same night.

He totally set up the whole deformity thing, since as people have pointed out, that's how he looked in all the holovids in the past 2 movies, even when Anakin was a child.

For the record, an angry, fully dark side Anakin should've been able to devastate Obi Wan. Obi Wan couldn't handle Dooku, but Anakin spanked him. Obi Wan < Dooku < Anakin, but it's a dumb movie so who even cares.

The ONLY reasons the Obi Wan could defeat THREE !!!! of the Dark side Best fighters ( Darth Maul, General Grievious, Anakin/Darth Vader), was BECAUSE HE HAD TO BE IN EPISODE 4 !!!!

Thus it pretty much kills all the believeablity into his "supposivly" great skills. Especially, when Anakin points out that HE DID SAVE Obi Wan 10 times before.

Exactly... I think every victory Obi Wan had was a lame cop-out and a terrible end to a great warrior. He should patent his "hanging-off-a-ledge" killing techniques.

I think Obi won because Anny was in such poor form at the end of the movie. He was going crazy and the dark side was settling through him. Anny has next to no training in how to deal with the dark side at that point. It would be like taking a little town cop, a bad ass one though, and putting him in the middle of a ground fight in Vietnam. He had no experience to deal with what was going through his mind at the time.
