The strengths of the original trilogy were the individual characters themselves, the extraordinary situations they were in, and the action scenes. Honestly, Episode 3 more than succeeds on all these fronts and is a movie as good as any of the old ones, if not better than a couple of them. The Anakin-pledging-allegiance-to-Palpatine scene is as powerful as anything in the old movies, and honesty, from that scene on might be the pinnacle of the Star Wars films.
Im not positive on this, but Im sure Episode 3 makes Ep1 and Ep2 better in the same way Ep5 makes Ep4 and Ep6 better. Its the new trilogy's heart and soul, and its apparent that the first two films are incomplete and lost without it.
It might be funny for me to say this, but if you enjoyed the old trilogy but hated Episode 3, you are just jaded... or you havent seen the old trilogy in a long time.
