Thread: Critics and Horror films - Very good essay by Roger Ebert

  1. Critics and Horror films - Very good essay by Roger Ebert

Well, It is not a secret that majority of film critics dont like horror films, in the least. Horror considered to be lowbrow genre not worth your time or money. Most of the time it dissmissed as gorey stupid waste of time.

So reading this essay written by Roger Ebert, was quite interesting. He explains he own take on horror genre, what things work for him, and covers few films that were panned by critics back in their days, and he considers a good examples of horror films. I was very glad to see him cover John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, which is wonderfull, atmosphering and genuinly creepy horror film.

So give this a read, and discuss here, if you feel like it

Oh shit. Just noticed that it wasnt Ebert who was writing that. It was editor of his website. No wonder, that the text kept referencing Ebert.

Oh well. It is still a good read though.

  2. I only worked my way down to the take on "The Brood" film, but it was still a good read.

On a side note, does Roger always use this sort of tone and style in his reveiws that made you mistake him for him?
If that's the case and they're similar some how, I'll be sure to get an eye full of his work the next time Rog's reveiws come up.
Just tryin' to wake up the thread..
