Thread: Arrested Development

  1. Film Arrested Development

This was always a show I mean to watch, and I've heard nothing but glowing praise for it.

So I saw the Season 1 DVD came out yesterday, decided to give it a shot ($27.99 for 22 episodes, not too shappy). What a great purchase. HOLY HELL this show is awesome. Great writing, great characters, witty humor... incredibly solid show all around.

    Wholeheartedly recommended.

  2. I like it, but I don't think it's as funny as they make it out to be.

  3. I watched the FX marathon over the weekend, and laughed my ass off. After I get all the other DVD sets I've been hankering for, I'll be sure to get this one.

  4. I started watching this half way through the season, I'm glad it got saved from the ax and won an Emmy. Season 2 starts next month.

  5. I loved watching this last year. Going to pick up the DVD soon. Everyone watch the new season.. according to an article in the Times over the summer, this may have been (in terms of ratings and such) the type of show Fox would normally can. But instead they're giving it a great time slot and lots of promotion. Be sure to support

  6. Comedy shows without a laugh track have a hard time on American TV.

The BBC Import "The Office" has to fight to be noticed, and its going to get the NBC treatment, which I can assure you, will have a laugh track.

In other news, "This is what happens when you try to teach a lesson"
“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, you know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.” -George Carlin

  7. This is the single funniest show on television right now, and the funniest since Seinfeld. Its got fantastic characters and a storyline that continues from show to show, which most sitcoms don't attempt.

But like Wildkat said this show does not have a laugh track, and those have troubles. Which I really don't understand because I laugh at what makes me laugh, laugh track has never meant squat to me. Plus its a continuous storyline, which can turn off audiences just tuning in casualy. None the less the show needs to be watched by more people, its so damn good. The 7:30 (8:30 Et) time slot should help quite a bit fallowing up after simpsons.

Critical praise means nothing anymore for televison so its Emmys won't help. Look at what crap is popular now, "According to Jim" and "Yes Dear"?! Good lord!

Also go and buy "The Office" seasons and "Freaks and Geeks: Entire Series" these are two PHENOMINAL shows as well. Office was only two seasons by choice even though it was the most popular show in the UK, they ended it on purpose. Freaks and Geeks is an hour long Comedy Drama about Kids in the 80s, but is not a show geared twords kids. Its fantastic.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  8. I'm getting this today, only if Tower Records is still out of Ren & Stimpy.

  10. Hmmm, I bit the bullet and bought both Ren and Stimpy and Arrested Development...only because there was only two left. But I'm poor now.
