Didn't someone say "we're the survivors of 815" into the handheld radio earlier in season one?Originally Posted by Dylan1CC
I can't convey how pissed I was that it took 45 min for them to get back to where the first episode ended and then nothing else happened. I really don't give a flying fuck about Michael's backstory. At least it looks like episode 3 will be good, the "others" running with sticks and whatnot.Originally Posted by Josh

I think so. Maybe when Sayid, Kate, Shannon, Charlie and Boone heard Danielle's transmission for the first time I think Sayid said that into the radio. The thing is though, why would they change the transcript later?Originally Posted by Josh
It was tough not to get any further in the hatch storyline, but I thought it was really cool to see what went on from the perspective of the other two people down there. I liked the episode, but at the same time, more than usual, I wanted a second episode afterwards so that I wouldn't have to wait until next week.Originally Posted by Xeno G

What a marvelous show. Stupendous.

Xeno G: It's called real character development.
Exactly, it was really neat to see what was happening while Jack was on his way and what Locke was up to. It was also deviously clever of Locke to have him tie up Kate instead. It also apparently also confirmed that it is Desmond, the man from Jack's flashback and provided a bit more info on him. Looks like after failing/choosing not to become a doctor he instead ended up in a strange scientific research program.Originally Posted by shidoshi
Seeing Kate escape was neat because I assume after she doubles back she will use it as an opportunity to knock out Desmond. Then hopefully they can tie him up and get some answers out of him.
Anybody see what the Company name on the labels was? Just as I jumped up to the TV screen when it zoomed in a bit I was too late.
Also, what was the panel of numbers that the computer program reset? It looked like: "100800" October 8, 2000? A calendar?
Seeing Jin running from the Others and then all the deranged figures with spiked clubs was creepy. Now we know one reason why Desmond and Danielle have good reason to hole up in their own hideouts with guns.
Great episode, we saw the Others for the first time (well, besides the creeps on the boat) and next week Ana Lucia will be worked in, the season is moving right along.
Oh yeah, and I am still waiting to see where that possible Half Life clue fits in. Hit Others with crow bar? scratches chin![]()

Since I didn't know exactly what a dead man's switch was, I decided to look it up, found the following on freedictionary.com, very interesting:
http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Dead+man's+switch
So, the dead man's switch Desmond keeps executing: let's assume for now that it is tied in somehow with the cloud/smoke 'creatures' that rampage the island. If this is true, does the switch temporarily disable them somehow, or is Desmond using it to his advantage as a desperate way to keep the Others at bay? (ie: if we assume the switch controls the smoke columns/'creatures' somehow, then maybe the Others are in far flung areas of the Island to keep away from them and that is partly why they only seem to venture out when there is a new child to kidnap?)A dead man's switch (also known as - mainly in Britain - as a dead man's handle) is a device intended to take some action if the human operator becomes incapacitated in some way, a form of fail-safe. Because the action is usually to slow down or stop a vehicle, this is also sometimes known as a dead man's brake.
For example, most freight elevators, lawn mowers and snowblowers in some countries use a dead man's switch or a similar mechanism, causing them to respectively stop closing the elevator door or shut down if the switch is released. If a person faints while mowing the lawn, their hands will relax and the mower will shut off.
A very common use is in a locomotive; for that use, see dead-man's control dead-man's control.
Software versions of dead man's switches are used (usually only by technically competent people, and not many of those) to perform such tasks as notify friends or delete or encrypt data. The non-event triggering these can be almost anything, from failing to log in for a week consecutively, to not responding to an automated email ping, to a GPS-enabled phone not moving for a period of time, or even just failing to type the right magic sequence within a few minutes of the laptop booting. The motivations vary depending on the individual needs. Someone in a police state may be much more concerned about locking up their data securely (or deleting it) while others may just wish to alert friends or the authorities by email that something may be amiss.
Dead man's switch devices have also been used in suicide bombing to trigger the explosive if the bomber is shot or overpowered. This is a fail-deadly mechanism, rather than a fail-safe mechanism.
Also, what was the tracking/beeping noise that the spund speaker made? Assuming it wasn't making noise because of Kate escaping or Jack approaching the innard of the compound, then what was it alerting Desmond to? And why did Desmond look scared all of a sudden and say to Locke "Did you hear that?!" Maybe it was because he heard Jack coming or was it something else perhaps?

i think the beeping sound was letting Desmond know that there were only 3 minutes left in the 108 minute countdown
Desmond asking if Locke was "Him" to me either means
A.) Someone coming to give him news that whatever he was doing is no longer necessary
B.) Someone coming to relieve him from his post and take over the "next shift"
with all the old equipment in their it seems that Desmond was not the first person "manning that post"
as for the symbol on eveything in the bunker, the company name is DHARMA with a backwards R:

Its Feng Shui based but is definitly a corporate symbol...
Now for the killer part, the shark has a similar symbol on its back, check the screencap on this forum:

shark = part of security system?

Good theory that he is waiting for someone to take over, makes perfect sense and thanks for clarifying the beeping.Originally Posted by D_N_G
Yeah, I was reading on that site that the symbol can relate to "Career Prospects, Marriage and Romantic Happiness, Family and Health and Children." Definitely seems to fit in with the theory that whoever Desmond was with apparently tried to start some sort of failed colony there.

shark = part of security system?Man, that is nuts. It is crazy the things internet fans notice. Also, someone on that forum said the symbol on the shark's fin related to "Family and Health and Children." Odd.
