Wrong. They put this Dharma Logo on a shark, dude. A fucking shark. The fact that there was an episode called "Numbers" and that it is a recurring theme (Hurly, The Hatch, The French Woman) does not lend itself to coincidence alone. They are obviously trying to tie many things together.

There will eventually be a common thread that ties the majority of things together.

  2. I just rewatched that part now, it's clear that he's lying. My bad.

  3. Obviously. If he really was "Him", he'd know the counter-code, which he does not.

  4. I just realized how great the acting is in this show. Really well done stuff.

He was trying to HURT MY BAY-BEE!!

Most of the acting is great stuff... some of the characters are not as good as others.

I guess I should have specified the "main" characters.

I re-watched SE02E01. When Locke has to input the code, the countdown beeper starts at 29:39 into the episode (least that's what it says on the one I have on my PC) and is shown at 30:14 reading 002:38. So, you've got 35 seconds + 2:38 for 003:13 when it starts, which doesn't seem important in any way.

When it is reset, though, it changes to 108:00, which is:
    4 + 8 + 15 + 16 + 23 + 42 and the same number on the Mural that Jack sees.

The weird thing is that when the counter is reset, it doesn't start counting down in the first 3 seconds, nor is there any sound (clicks, not beeps), that is is. Unclear if it's on a 108 minute countdown, which would severely fuck up any normal person (less the shot does something to counteract sleep deprivation) or some unknown amount of time passes before it begins to count down from 108.

Also, to anyone that posts things from episode previews, please spoiler tag them. Some people, myself namely, don't watch those for a specific reason.

I'm thinking it has to be the latter. I can't believe that they would require a person to check in every 108 minutes, unless as you said there is something else in affect to counterbalance the normal human needs for sleep.

Best guess, IMHO, would be that code input requirement time comes up, and Desmond then has a 108 minute window to put the code in before whatever would happen happens. That way, if he's in the shower, out getting food (?), or doing whatever else, he still has a chance to come back and enter it.

  9. If this show is anything like J.J. Abrams' show Alias, it'll be awesome for like the first two seasons then really suck for every season thereafter. On that note I need to check out the first season of this.

  10. Well, I think where Lost has a better chance is that they have a clear idea of how the entire storyline is going to go. With a show like Alias, you make a season, and then if you get brought back for another, you have to come up with more storylines. Repeat for each season.

If ABC tries to then get them to do more beyond what they've got planned out, that is where it is going to really get into trouble. A good example of that was Milennium. There was clearly a main storyling going on in it, but then it hit a point where it seems like they wanted to wrap things up, but were asked to continue stringing it along. The whole feel of the show changed, and it was nowhere near as good anymore.
