Interesting thing about this post from 2004, I know a guy who fits this description exactly. He graduated in sound engineering back in 04, built up a ton of debt, and as far as I know, he has yet to find a job.

  4. I understand sound engineers have the best pot. Confirmation?

  5. I don't see how a sound engineer can't find work. All the people I know that went to school for that landed jobs working in studios. And the rate record labels spring up in the US alone should be enough to get some contract work here and there.

    1. They probably don't have any connections
    2. They probably just suck and can't do nothing worth hiring for.

The arts institute's now teach game programming courses and have it as a major. I dunno how far the program is now, cause I graduated right when it was getting started.

The program I'm currently in is also slowly turning into an interactive design/programming program. It seems like a trend now in universities.

Unfortunately I'm graduating also, so I won't get to see how the classes they are going to offer actually are.

its 21 months - 31 months ( you fail out if you fail more than 10 classes, or fail a core class more than once)

    you have class 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, 4 weeks of vacation a year - 2 for xmas, 1 spring , 1 summer

full sail has a placement department, but the students place themselves, the first team that graduated through the BS degree a few months ago got jobs lined up prior to graduation and never utilized the department and i beleive the same has been true for many groups after them.

i go to full sail, im in my senior term, and i have nothing but good things to say about the school, most of the rumors about the school are queers that couldnt cut it and are just bitter about it. one of their slogans says it perfectly, if you take your dream seriously, so will we (or something to that effect) - because it really is an amazing school if you go into it seriously and are willing to put in the work because they have a lot of amazing talent from all areas of the gaming industry that teach the classes.

Awwww, newbie pissed off that we all think FS is for stupid fucksticks?

Anyways, Full Sail can teach you how to do all kinds of shit except find jobs. I go to UCF literaly right down the road (where real college takes place). I used to live in a dorm near UCF that also has FS student and almost all of them are going nowhere in life (usually recording arts majors, or gangsters trying to be the next 50 cent) spending sickening amounts of money to learn a specialized degree that as far as I know is limiting as fuck IRL. The debt load most FS students leave with is staggering, it's probably a good thing though that FS has very little or no acceptance standards, most FS peeps I met couldn't get into real college.

Anyways, I'm done sitting around talking about how stupid FS is (I mean shit, when you have learning facilities in rented out space in an old shopping plaza on...SR 426 in Orlando you have issues as a legit school.) because there really isn't anything else to rag on it for.

BTW, just being accredited doesn't mean your credits will transfer for shit. All this ass ache plus bullshit schedules (of classes post midnight) when there's a real college that offers more or less the same programs 3 or 4 miles down the road is ludacris.

  8. Wow, someone's bitter.

  9. All these for-profit schools are horse shit. They're overly expensive, have zero credibility on the job market, and have no standards for admission. They just want warm bodies. There was a report on these places on... 60 Minutes I believe last year. These poor girls went to one of them as "fashion majors", listened to the commercials about how you get put in an awesome job in the fashion industry, etc., and they put one of them at The Gap. The companies abuse student loan laws and make a shitload of money while burying people in debt. They had an undercover video where this girl flunked the admission test twice but they kept giving her a new test so she would be admitted.

    Bojack is right.

  10. If you aren't aiming for a real high end school atleast try to find a decent community college with some credibility so you can work your way up to a decent paying position.
