No and even if you could often times you can't do dick with privately learned knowledge, all the accounting knowledge on Earth won't let you get your CPA w/o a Masters (which is what's generally needed to be a Certified Public Accountant).

  2. Ok. I know a guy who went to Full Sail for sound engineering, and loved it. Yes, you could learn all of this stuff by yourself if you tried really hard, but you could do the same with any of the material from a four year school, couldn't you? Let's face it, you go to college, for the most part, for that piece of paper that will gain you access to good employment in the future. Getting your certification at a tech school does the same thing for you, as it looks good on your resume. When you apply for that next IT job without a degree, try telling the HR person that despite the fact that you have no college degree, you tried really hard and learned that stuff by yourself. If you had prior experience, or some sort of reference that could verify that you know your shit, that might work, but otherwise...they will laugh in your face. Also, as a far as learning the stuff by yourself goes, how many oppurtunities do you think you would have to work in multi-million dollar recording facilities, on $500,000 consoles, with engineers that are PAID to answer your questions and guide you through the process? That's what I thought...not many. You might be able to if you can get an internship, which is a challenge within itself in the recording industry (same goes for VG dev, I can only assume), but besides, you'll be too busy taking out the trash, making coffee, picking up lunch orders, and cleaning the bathrooms to have any time to learn this shit. In these sorts of industries, companies used to pick up interns that were motivated so they could develop them, and hopefully be sitting in the engineers chair after they paid their dues. Nowadays, they want interns to, well, make their coffee and pick up their lunch. If you manage to prove yourself, so be it. But if you don't, it was no skin off of the studio's back.

As far as getting a job is concerned, anyone that graduated from Full Sail that doesn't have a job within a few months is a fucking loser. I graduated from the Omega Studios program, and had a job within a month. Guess how I did it? *gasp* I busted my ass and sent out as many resumes as I could, followed up on them all multiple times, built up a demo reel on my own time while I was in school, and didn't give up. I got rejected by 50 different places, but I only needed one job right?

Also, realize that you aren't going to get your dream job right out of school. Most people who I went to school with had this little fantasy world going on in their head that they were going to get cushy studio jobs, doing major label sessions and getting high with the band. WAKE THE FUCK UP! If you aren't willing to take some shit jobs before you land the one you want, then forget about it. I wanted to work in a studio, recording bands and the such, but there aren't that many of those positions available, and the ones that get them are experienced engineers with kick-ass demo reels and references. My first job was with a netcast company on capitol hill, doing on site recordings of congressional hearings and press conferences. It was soooo damn boring, but it's part of the process.

All in all, you get out what you put in. If you think paying your money and showing up is enough, then kill yourself.

  3. About Full Sail

It looks like someone has brought fullsailsucks.com back

    http://www.doesfullsailsuck.com

I found this when doing a google search for the original fullsailsucks.com

By the way, this school is a complete rip-off, unless you are too lazy to read and learn on your own.
