Thread: Argonaut up for sale.

  1. Too bad to see them have to fall on to hard times. Real quiet company that really shined at times. Their history of games is really all over the map in terms of genres and play styles, one thing I really liked about the company. I am sure some company (probably EA) will buy them up and spread the programmers over their own respected projects, never to work together again.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  2. On a related note, the most anticipated cancelled project from Argonaut, Star Fox 2, just saw a debugged english translated version of the final beta last week. It's fully playable and complete, based of the final sources of the game before it was canned (as opposed to other variants dumped from prototype carts). It's a good job, I don't think it's much different than what we would have seen on the shelves.

Truth be told, it's way too different from the first (It's not a rail shooter), and while it's a fun little game, fans wouldn't have been happy with it. BUT it was a heart-breaking cancellation for many, and it's cool to finally see what could have been,

Cool. Do you know if that patch at The Whirlpool is the full patch? I couldn't tell from what was written there.

Was Star Fox 2 done completely by Argonaut or was it a collaboration with EAD?

The patch at whirlpool should have 2 patches: one that just translates the text, and the other that has bugfixes and has debug stuff disabled.

And like the first, it was a collaboration with EAD.

I'm guessing that nightmare of a project is what really killed them.

    Thanks, man! Great find.

It's too bad the name "Argonaut" means so little to gamers today. Anyone who had an Atari ST in the old days knew the name Jez San.

Oh, and didn't Argonaut make Powerdrome?
