Before Tuesday's announcement, there were rumors all over that they might be introducing a flash-based iPod "micro." It didn't happen, but it still is a possibility. IF it happens, my guess is it won't make it in time for the holidays. Also, from Tuesday's little speech, it sounded like Jobs was still not a fan of flash-based players, so who even knows if it could happen or not.

One thing you might check are places like Best Buy, where they have open items for less. I've seen an iPod show up a few times at the one near mean, and that's how I got mine for cheaper.

    1. Improved 15 hour battery life
    2. Color LCD Display
    3. 60g Hard Drive
    4. Ability to upload the Album Cover for viewing.

Even though I will never use the picture viewer, I can see the usefulness in developing the iPod Photo. It is a neat way of whoring around the photo's that are near and dear to you.

I think I'll wait for the price to come down a little. I'm trying to hold out for a iPOD that supports movie playback. Untill then, its a mini for me...

I think this competes with the Apple III for dumbest product Apple has ever put out. Why do I want to take photos with me like I do music? Why do I want to look at photos on an extremely tiny screen? Only 16bit color? It does not have a built in camera (which would have been the way to go) to really take advantage of the hard drive. This is classic "we've got a good product but ran out of ideas to keep people buying", same with the U2 ipod.

Here's a bandwagon. Jump on it.

I saw a perfect example of this just today. Went to pick up Dawn of the Dead at Best Buy, and checked the iPods just out of curiosity. They had a 40GB iPod that had been opened and returned marked down from $399 to $319.

  8. Or you can get a Zen for $212.

Why anyone would spend $100 more for an iPod is beyond me.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  9. If it doesn't play movies on a large screen I don't care.

I'm getting a Windows Media Portable Media Center in a few weeks. 40GB of movies, music, pictures, anything. Hell, I could load the thing with Music Videos and just listen to music all day, with the videos playing.

I really don't get why pictures on an Ipod are big.

Because Apple fans are the ultimate fanboys.

One thing to think about, Color LCDS while not only draining batteries a significant amount more than a B&W version, Are also very hard to see in bright sunlight, and nearly impossible to see without a backlight in normal lighting conditions.

I am experencing this in my own industry as the Cell phone market has gone almost totaly color screen based, when in reality 60% of the consumers in the market don't need it.

If they were going to give the thing a color LCD at least give the thing the ability to playback quicktime files and make it somewhat worthwhile.

Or, a built in CF reader, or at least Bluetooth...somthing to make the photo feature worthwhile.

and please, go back to the 3rd gen button design.
