Steal some thunder from the competition's potential post holiday seller, perhaps?
of course they know. it's likely that sony had a lot to do with the timing of the announcement. wanting to put the final nails in nintendo's coffin, so to speak.Originally Posted by kbuchanan

This is reason why Nintendo relies so heavily on 1st party games. No crazy shit like this goes. You never know when a game can get ported to another at any time. Their is a very good chance that a huge 3rd party game like MGS:SE could get ported to the Cube or Xbox. Nintendo should not have trusted capcom and RE4 to sell consoles like they are. They should have pushed Metroid back, added online multiplayer ( Like Mario Karts Warp Pipe) and shown that as the console seller. The RE series has NEVER sold consoles. Sony knows this better than anyone else.
Honestly, the PS2 version will be the least likely one I get simply because it will look so poor. I am assuming the GC and Xbox versions will be progressive scan, if not, then I might actually buy the PS2 version simply because I run the other systems progressive scan, we'll have to see...
I personally like the idea of shopping it off to all systems and hopefully we will actually see improvements depending on the version you get.
As long as I get the game, I don't really care which system, though optimally, the Xbox seems to provide the best quality of the 3, I esp liked Xbox version of Onimusha, so yeah, perhaps this will push Capcom to give the Xbox games like DMC3 in progressive scan, so we don't have to stare at the same stale, tired jaggies again...
I know a lot of you always say progressive scan and dolby digital for that matter aren't an issue for most gamers, but it def should be...HDTV is the future and is very cheap now and a lot of gamers, many of my friends, all take this into account when buying a game...why have a beautiful 3-D game that can't support atleast VGA standards? The DC did it years ago...there's no reason every single 3-D game that is a major release can't be progressive scan, and if you think it doesn't make a difference, it does...it's like playing a whole new game...

"50,000! You scored 50,000 points on Double Dragon?"
I look at it like this. If someone down the street only has a GC then awesome that guy has a chance to play some RE4. If the guy next door to him only has a PS2 then sweet - he also has a chance to play some RE4. Likewise now with the cat who only has an X-Box.Those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to pick and choose which system we play it on have it all the better.Originally Posted by remnant
For me system wars have been over for a long damn time - the moment I got a job and was able to afford more than one. The only people who still see a war between the game systems are those kids in grade school who only have one or the other (see Gamefaqs forums for furthur details) ,and the big names themselves: Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft.
If Nintendo wants to succeed in this market and sell some systems then they're going to have to up their game and not depend on one third party title to do it for them. The DS will hopefully be a good example of how originality, and a multitude of support from the third variety can make a product a success.

It MAY not be a deciding factor in why little Jimmy wants a certain console, but every little bit, and every major title released on a said system makes that system that much harder to resist, I would think.
That is total bullshit. I bought a PlayStation for exactly one reason way back in 1995(?): Resident Evil.Originally Posted by remnant
