Opaque: Nintendo fans are the stupidest in the world. You havent realized this by now?
REmake and Code Veronica PS2 sold about the same amount at full price, it was only when it went Greatest Hits that CV surpassed it (and actually doubled it's own sales). In fact every RE since CV on Dreamcast has sold about the same before budget rerelease.

Funny thing though, that PSone sales peaked their 4th/5th years while PS2 peaked 2nd/3rd years. GBA has almost consistantly outsold PS2 month to month since it's launch in 2001, it's the fastest selling game platform in history. If you want to look at overall totals worldwide though regardless of timeframes...

    01 Game Boy/Color (Nintendo)~ 120 million (1989-2002)
    02 PlayStation (SCEI)~ 101+ million (1994-current)
    03 PlayStation 2 (SCEI)~ 74+ million (2000-current)
    04 Famicom/NES (Nintendo)~ 72 million (1983-1994)
    05 Game Boy Advance (Nintendo)~ 58+ million (2001-current)
    06 Super Famicom/Super NES (Nintendo)~ 55 million (1990-2000)
    07 Nintendo 64 (Nintendo)~ 36 million (1996-2001)
    08 MegaDrive/Genesis (Sega)~ 34 million (1988-1998)
    09 Xbox (Microsoft)~ 17+ million (2001-current)
    10 GameCube (Nintendo)~ 16+ million (2001-current)

If they were they wouldn't have changed a thing. tHEY WOULD HAVE KEPT IT THE SAME.
They're changing things because they want their franchise to stay on top. As pointed out in this thread earlier, their franchise was still doing quite well for itself. It's only since going to the Gamecube that Capcom has showed dissatisfaction with the sales figures.

How can you say Nintendo doesn't listen to Fans when they changed the direction of an entire franchise on the word of their fans.( Zelda) The Xbox controller was changed becuase it got good reveiws form Japan. Not becuase American Gamers wanted the change.
After releasing a completely different game before doing it. It's also too soon to know if the new Zelda will be awesome. I loved the new look of Zelda, but many people wondered why they would show us a glimpse of a Zelda demo (to good feedback) on the Gamecube and then completely change it.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles sold well period and you can't argue that. Also the GBAs and Link cabl;es sold alsop gave Nintendo profit.( OH i FORGOT THE GBA DOESN'T MAKE MONEY AND SHOULD NOT BE COUNTED WHEN TALKING ABOUT nINTENDOS BUDGET BECUASE IT NOT A "CONSOLE")
It sold like dirt for a Final Fantasy. It's even more pointed considering most Final Fantasies average over a million in sales.

Actually REmake, Outbreak and Zero all met Capcom's internal target figures. Really, the only recent Capcom games that haven't have been selleing as expected are mainly big PS2 titles (Chaos Legion, auto modellista, Onimusha 3, etc) and Dino Crisis 3 on Xbox.

As overall platforms though GameCube and GBA have been continually surpassing Capcom's software expectations, while both PS2 and Xbox have continually failed to hit their expected margins. Supporting GameCube clearly hasn't been Capcom's financial downfall going by their own statements and looking at their portfolio it's clear PS2 has always remained the companies target platform.

It outsold FFXI by a decent margin, both being more multiplayer experiments than actual Final Fantasies. And FFCC is over a million worldwide.

  5. They hit their internal target but didn't surpass it like the first RE did.

A million FF:CC sold worldwide, lets say a quarter of owners bought 4 GBAs and Link Cables to play full multiplayer. 4 GBAs and Link Cables back then total was like $500. A quatre of a million people buying stuff costing 500 bucks. Thats a lot of cash all going to Nintendo. SE must like The DS as well since FF:CC is going to that and is Final Fantasy 3 the only Final Fantasy never released out of Japan

This announcement will obviously cut into potential GC sales, Capcom has to know this.
Potential sales? Barely anyone is buying CG now. Capcom knows this. Hence, the business decision to port RE4 to better selling systems.

Waiting on the announcement would've allowed "double dipping" to an extent. Get all the mileage they could out of the GC release, then surprise with an enhanced PS2 port the following year (as Namco did so brilliantly with Tales of Symphonia). Announcing the PS2 version so prematurely pretty much stunts sales of the GC version in anticipation of the PS2 release.

It's been speculated that the reasoning for the PS2 port and announceing it so early was a move by management to appease stockholders and is causing some conflict with the R&D teams (which is a trend that's been increasing since Okamoto's departure last year). This may actually be Mikami's final game for Capcom (the GC version, he won't be involved with the PS2 port according to rumors). The management restructring seems to be going about as well as Sega's. :/

Is the PS2 port much better than the Gamecube version? I haven't really been looking for alot of info on it but isn't the port to PS2 also Japan only?

Symphonia PS2 has some extra content over the GC version (mainly cuscenes and subquests) but it took a visual hit (halved framerate & weaker textures). Right now it's Japan only, but I wouldn't doubt the PS2 port gets brought over in early 2005 (it's more likely than getting the 2D PS2 Tales games here imo).
