Dammit, I always miss the good stuff. So any of you guys playing tonight around 11PM EST? It's the weekend, so I can afford going to bed late.Originally Posted by sleeveboy

It's true. But it has its moments. Especially when Chux is playing.
The best part is everyone gets their own screen guaranteed. Sort of. Well, not really. But that's my favourite part- no dragging tv's about.
But that doesn't negate the point that games online ARE fun, regardless of the person who plays it social situation. I personally will never have enough people around to play LAN parties, and 16 player huge tournaments with my friends simply because I don't have enough friends who are hardcore gamers. Does that mean me playing online games to get some competition is a sad substitute? Absolutly not, I feel like it's the only realistic substitute. Not only that, but it makes it even more fun because I'm actually getting good competition in comparison to me playing against my friends who just arn't as good at videogames.Originally Posted by MarkRyan

The deal with Xbox LAN Parties is that it's nearly impossible for most people to get one started. You'll need at least two TVs, two Xboxes, and two copies of the game (and double that if you want to play some 16-player games), and you will most likely not get that together unless you work for a gaming magazine (like MarkRyan).Originally Posted by Cowutopia
At least Xbox Live has the communicator, so you can simulate part of the social interaction of a LAN party by (trash-)talking with others. I like having my own screen so that my opponents won't know where exactly where I'm at. And the ranking system will usually give you a stream of opponents that won't absolutely destroy you (or vice-versa), making the games competitive.
Granted, we won't be able to throw things at Chux or fart in Opaque's direction to distract him from his killing streak, but these are sarcifices that I'm willing to make so that I can play Halo 2 with a lot of other people without much fuss.

Two Xbox's and two TVs is plenty for a good time, and it's not too hard to get six or eight people together to have some of the best fun possible in gaming. The only thing that keeps me from doing it often now is that my friends live in Sacramento, while I'm in San Francisco. We still get together, but not often enough.
