You do but it takes a second. If you're close to an enemy it's immediate but if it's a teammate you have to hold it over them.

When in doubt, hold the Back button. It gives you the list of everyone playing along with their symbols.

I press that everytime I die to check kill status and connection for everyone, it's quite handy.

I used to think that the Battle Rifle sucked, but it can be a lethal weapon if you're at the right distance away from your opponent. If your opponent is close, forget about using the Battle Rifle - there are far more effective weapons at that range (shotgun, double pistol, etc).

Your opponent has to be outside the effective range of the SMGs in order for you to kill with the Battle Rifle. It's a great mid-distance weapon because there's nothing your opponent can do at that range (unless they have double Needler) as you're pelting them with controlled bursts.

I can take guys out at mid-long range with the BR better than a sniper rifle on the first zoom.

OHNOS! I went to Gamefaqs to get a weapon faq on Halo 2, and apparently the br and magnum do do more damage when you hit in the head. I'm not posting shit from there on here though. Just take my word for it.
