I already have Halo 2, and my laptop would catch fire if HL2 was in the same room as it.

Even if I had an Xbox and liked Halo 1, it'd still be Half Life 2. By all accounts it has a better story, better gameplay, better level design, better presentation, better graphics and production values. Half Life 2 is much more than a sequel; It's going to be one of the defining games of the generation.

I don't really like online play, and I don't need to own a copy of Halo 2 to join in offline games.

Yep, the Counter strike community is some of the most intellegent and skilled players, and never once complain about ANYTHING, or would resort to using things like wallhacks or aimbots or even once accuse anyone who is good of using said software....

Halo 2, I just didn't get into the original Half-Life, I played about 10 minutes of it and those tiny alien spiders annoyed the hell outta me... I might give HL2 a chance though.
