everything gets stale after a while.. eq2 was pretty cool while i played it.. things needed fixing for sure.. and from what i hear they've done a lot to really fill some of the holes they dug for themselves. a lot of the people i was in a clan with went on to WoW and then GW, but now they are coming back to mess with the new implementations.. and they are really liking it again.

Here's a vicious old bump.

I played the past week or two during the winter break only to find the game is almost totally different. After a short time with the WoW trial I realized that the game sucked. Then I rejoin EQ2 to find it has tried to emulate WoW for some reason.

Leveling is much, much easier than it ever has been reducing time needed in zones and emptying lower level areas. Quest givers now have indicators floating above their heads removing any reason for actual quest text short of the list of things to kill. Death has no more meaning short of some equipment repair and minor debt removing most risk/reward from encounters.

It's even more "eq-lite" than it was before.

I hit 50, though, and that's something I always wanted to do from the old days. But it was so easy it didn't really seem like an accomplishment at all.

Screw it. EQ2 is dead. And since there are better places to debate the various styles of MMOGs I'll leave it at that.

At least Vanguard : Saga of Heroes has potential. It's designed by some of the main people behind the original EQ. And maybe they'll get it right ala EQ before the big nerfs and expansions (post Kunark).

Don't do it.

SOE managed to screw up the two things that were good about EQ2. Now it's a WoW clone with a shrinking community and post expansion economy destruction. If you want floating quest helper icons, map markers, no death penalty and other nonsense just play WoW.
