Thread: Hands on the DS

  1. Who's making things up, just look at the numbers...

    Mario Party 4: 3 million sold worldwide
    Xbox Live Base: 1 million subscriptions

    ... had I wanted to go for the kill, I'd have just used Mario Kart as an example instead. Fact of the matter is that online console gaming is a niche (but growing) market today. But really, the only reason I bring it up is that trolling back seems to be the only thing some respond to around here.

    Yeah, but you're comparing two different things. You're saying people would rather play Mario Party then go and play Halo 2 online. Why are you saying people would rather play a game offline then a game online, when most people will be playing Halo 2 offline with their friends via split-screen or LAN? Halo 2 has sold, what? 2.5 million copies worldwide already? You can't just take numbers and make that fact.

  3. Damn, the touchiest most insecure gamers seem to be anti-nintendo fanboys. Dogpile!!!!!woot.
    PSN = knarlockk

    Did you miss the part were Halo 2 broke all sorts of records on it's release day? What about the part were it had the most people playing online at one time in video game history? Were you around for that?

    It seems like you take irrelevent numbers and try to use them for some point. The over all sales of a game that's about two years old doesn't have any measure for comparison to a barnd new game. Besides, Halo 2 is selling much faster than Mario Party 4 or 5 did. Infact, it's selling faster thaqn any other game ever. Another thing, you are comparing one use of a game against another game in whole. Do you think more people would rather play in a certain map of Mario Party than any aspect of Halo 2?

    Mario party is a good rental when you are double dating with another couple and have ready amounts of alcohol and 4 controllers. Online it might not be so fun, unless you provide yourself with ready amounts of alcohol.

    And marijuana does not improve the experience. It's all about burnout when you're up there.

  7. Jarrod, the new Nintendo Power outlines the wi-fi usage of DS multi-player stuff, and the ability to download games from other users is mentioned as well. Wi-fi gaming...*drool*

  8. Jeremy, that's how you play Mario 2 -4 players. One person has the game, the the other three "Download" the multiplayer module.

  9. Sounds awesome, and yeah, they go into a bit on that aspect of Mario.

  10. epmode: oddly enough, in a new famitsu interview, miyamoto finally admits that online games are the future and the company is in the process of developing them. he also mentioned that mario 128 will actually be a cube game.
    First off all, great to hear we actually get an additional Mario adventure on the same system (here's hoping it has a little more platforming and more tricky enemies to contend with, pianta village was an awesome level as an example but that giant tree screamed for enemies to be hiding on its branches waiting to push me off). Secondly, I hope Miyamoto's comments aren't just vague and really do indicate interest in true online gaming with the next system. Cuz otherwise I dunno what Reggie meant in a recent Game Informer interview where he said the next home console would enable "many people to play against each other across great distances."

    Animal Crossing DS is rumored to be the first WiFi 80211b compliant game (ie: online). Check out the signal indicator in the lower left hand corner of the screen...
    I hope you're right but that signal indicator in the Animal Crossing pics doesn't really mean anything...yet. It's just the standard multiplayer signal indicator which tells you whether or not your buddies are close enough. But I'll say this, Nintendo is gonna have me reaaally ticked off if Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart and Animal Crossing don't have 80211b.
