Thread: Blockbuster buying Hollywood Video?

  1. What is the problem with Blockbuster's late fee system?

If you don't return it before noon of the due date, you get charged for a renewal of the movie or game. Even if you return it an hour late.

  3. So?

  4. Hollywood lets you rent stuff even if you have late fees on your account. Blockbuster doesn't. Blockbuster's late fees are also a hell of a lot more expensive than Hollywood's.

As far as the people bitching that Blockbuster charges you late fees when you return something late, them's the breaks, kids. It wasn't what I was complaining about. I expect to get charged if I return something late.

  5. I never understood bitching about the late fees of a video store. What is so fucking hard about returning a movie on time? It's amazing. It's staggering, to me, that someone will return a film late and then get mad about the fee. "It was only an hour late!" Well, that was one hour the film COULD have been there for another customer to rent, you selfish sons of bitches. You're going to begrudge them the cost they could have rented that film out to another person? What's even more mind-boggling is when the late fee is less than the standard rental rate of the film!

But then, I was an assistant manager at a video store (not Blockbuster) so I don't know if my opinion means anything to you.

If I let a game rental from Blockbuster get to be late and I'm aware of it, I just keep it for the duration of another rental so I'm not wasting another rental of the full price, and then I make sure I get that shit back. Not a complaint about the policy, so much as a way of not wasting the money they're making me spend anyway.

    Same here.

Hollywood Video = Moderate video choice, anything that's not new and/or extremely popular is on VHS which has a varied choice, most of them making no logical sense why they are there.

Blockbuster = Most video choices available on DVD and VHS, old or new, popular or dirt.

Late fee's are an issue but Blockbuster gives you a lot of longer rental times, just make sure you get them back on time.

  9. When I was using blockbuster they never really stated a certain time it was due back. They would just say noon on such and such day. I would bring it back before then and STILL get charged for that shit. Its not my fault they don't check the lil bin thats over full.

A few years back Blockbuster and a bunch of movie rental places got sued for that shady practice. I remember my local Movie Gallery sending out mails about it and sending free rental coupons as an appology.

  10. I love Blockbuster's longer rental periods for most stuff, although Hollywood's 5-day flat rental period is much more convenient, as I don't have to remember if it's a 2, 5, or 7 day rental from BB.
