A few years back Blockbuster and a bunch of movie rental places got sued for that shady practice. I remember my local Movie Gallery sending out mails about it and sending free rental coupons as an appology.

You must all go to really messed up Blockbusters, I've never had any problems like this and I've been going to several different ones since Blockbuster has been around.

You said in your first post that their late fee policies were why you stopped going there...

Well, that was one hour the film COULD have been there for another customer to rent, you selfish sons of bitches. You're going to begrudge them the cost they could have rented that film out to another person? What's even more mind-boggling is when the late fee is less than the standard rental rate of the film!
I agree about late fees, but BB's late fees are just absurd beyond the point of greed. Just because I return something a few hours late doesn't mean I should have to pay MORE than the original rental fee.

  3. Late fee whining aside, Hollywood has a shit of a lot better selection than Blockbuster ever did.
Hell, all the Blockbuster that I used to go to ever carried in terms of games were sports and racing ones. Hollywood has EVERYTHING.
If Blockbuster buys them, I'll never rent another movie again.

But then, I was an assistant manager at a video store (not Blockbuster) so I don't know if my opinion means anything to you.
It's the fact that they charge you FULL PRICE that aggrivates me. Most other rental places, including libraries, will charge $1 or so a day. That, to me, is more fair to charge. But I'm usually never late, so the point is moot for me.

This is why you hand it directly to the cashier, you look at the name tag and get the name, so this way you can blame it on them.

  6. In Dallas, we have a store called Movies:Buy, Sell, Trade. They rented most movies for $2.50 and offered the largest selection of DVD's anywhere. Needless to say, Blockbuster bought them out about a year later. Since then, the rental price went up to $3 and the late fees increased. I don't live by that store anymore, so I don't know how bad Blockbusters influence is on them now.

The one I used to use was pretty F'd up. I remember they were god damn calling my house on Thanksgiving for christ sake about some god damn movies I NEVER rented. They were making some huge fuss over em and I called em and told them I never rented them. So then they had me drive out there on Thanksgiving and watch a video of some fat bastard renting movies I'd never watch, supposedly on MY account and walk out. I still don't have an idea how it rang up as me and they couldn't explain it either....I was beyond pissed that day.

  8. Once BB called me up and told me if I didn't return a game they would come to my house.

Late fee's are an issue but Blockbuster gives you a lot of longer rental times, just make sure you get them back on time.
See, it's the exact opposite here in NY…most Blockbusters here have an 'eh' selection lately (and almost no VHS at all) and have all their stuff jam-packed into stores that are getting far too small for them, considering that they're now have separate sections for selling new movies and stuff. Hollywood, meanwhile, has much bigger stores with a far wider selection of both DVD and VHS.

I think it might be time to seriously consider going halfsies with someone on Netflix and/or Gamefly for a while.
