    The Boston Holocaust Memorial

Anybody else walk through this? Each column is full of the numbers of concentration camp prisoners, with a few quotes on each at eye-level.

It's simple, but more powerful than I thought it would be. I may only be half-Jewish, but I still get angry and teary-eyed when I think of all the people (not just Jews) who died during that regime and resulting war, and even more angry at the few people who refuse to believe the holocaust even existed.

  2. Yeah I walk through that thing a couple times a week

  3. Is Jewish a religion or an ethnicity?

  4. I've been to the one in D.C., and it's pretty intense. The way they portray everything is amazing, and pretty touching.

Well...here's a boring post. There is a jewish culture, so that's an ethnicity, and that's where all my Judaism lies, I think. I am not personally religous, I rejected both Judaism and Christianity earlier in my life.

My mom, a Roman Catholic (until recently converting) and my Dad, Jewish, both weren't very religoius when I was young, but I was immersed in the traditions and values of each religion through their family, my mom's side being RC and my dad's being Jewish. So the holidays, certain foods, (though for my mom's side it's Italian culture more than a specific RC culture.) language, and certain beliefs were filtered through to me from there and from friends. (I have a lot of Jewish friends.)

Bottom line - The Jewish religion has laws that govern the culture, but beyond those laws the Jewish people cherish their culture and use it as a foundation for their community much like other groups, Asian Americans etc.. do. Especially with conservative and orthodox jews, they often form tightly-knit communities that are tightly tied to their unique culture.

Judaism is a religion, and if someone identifies himself as Jewish, you have to assume religion. The culture goes along with the religion unles he specifies that he is culturually but not religiously Jewish, like me. (1/2)

  7. That's a really flattering picture of that area around the temple and the memorial. That street is pothole heaven.

I'm sorry to piss in your cheerios. But the Ashkenazi and Sepharadic Jews are an ethnicity, and most American Jews are Ashkenazi.

  10. Anything you can convert to, isn't a race.

"Hello, yes, I'd like to convert to Black, please, thanks"

    Yeah...
