Because Evil Dead was popular once, and now that there's A) a whole bunch of new fans who have never heard of the movie or B) people that just never saw the movie the first time (which there are a shitload of).

Raimi figures it was popular once, he'll revamp it and re-release it and it can be profitable in the next generation, making a whole new line of Ash films.

I mean, old fans might go "oh man, this sucks compared to the original" but 80% of the movie going audience won't have any basis for comparision. Plus, Raimi can just splatter his name all over it "From the director of Spider-Man 1 and 2!!!"

If the advertising is done right, I can guarantee it'll go #1 in the first week.

but he should make a new one, not rehash an old one. And he should do it himself, not farm it out.

Most of the moviegoers won't even know it's a rehash.

Evil Dead isn't as big as people think. I think I've only ever met one other person who knows what it is, other than being a shitty Xbox / PS2 game.

He'll screw over the core fans, because honestly, he'll make alot more on the mainstream moviegoers.

Yeah really, I don't get why he would do that. Raimi, Tapert and Campbell all seem to really love the franchise (considering it put them where they are today), so I don't get why they would re-do the first one, it's already perfect and a cult classic.
