but it is the same damn thing. Same strafing, sound effects, music, enemies, battles. It just has a grimier coat on, but the graphics don't even look impressive.

The new Zelda looks absolutely gorgeous.... but Nintendo has been doing their best to kill my interest in the series with so many sequels that play so similarly and I fear it will happen again. My copy of Minish Cap is sitting here collecting dust while I zoomed through Cave Story loving every minute because it's fresh. Nintendo always makes sure new Mario games feel unique, why can't they do the same with Zelda?

  3. However, how many games these days are truly "fresh", especially franchise games? Most games these days are little more than rehashes of other games with different audio-visuals and a tacked-on "gimmick" (if you're lucky). Look at how widely borrowed concepts from GTA, DMC, Tomb Raider, Mario, etc find their way into so many other games.

Franchise games are even more prone to this. Tekken 5, Metroid Prime 2, Tomb Raider: AOD, Sonic Heroes, GTASA, Halo 2, KOTOR2...and so on.

Think of the equally mixed reaction to Zelda 2005 if they made it a Devil May Cry knock-off (like Ninja Gaiden) and called it The Adventure of Link 2 .

  4. They should call it Zelda: Lord of the Rings Edition.
"I've watched while the maggots have defiled the earth. They have
built their castles and had their wars. I cannot stand by idly any longer." - Otogi 2

  5. I like the darker theme, but the style of the game is much too generic. Kiddy or not, Wind Waker is one of the most visually appealing games ever made.

I loved the WW style too, and I'm kinda sad that it's gone.

But hey, this is better than nothing.

It's better than a lot of stuff. I miss Wind Wakers style too, but this is the kind of graphical style that should be put to use in a new game they come up with. It's so refreshing and distinctive that it would set it apart.

I just watched the trailer: Holy mother of pearl this looks great!

There were no fewer than 10 scenes in that trailer that looked like a direct rip off of scenes in the LOTR films.

  10. I'm fine with the Lord of the Rings derived inspiration, it's not a bad thing to be inspired by you know.
