The odds of this Baseball game being innovative are slim to none; I know that, you know that, Nintendo knows that. They aren't going for innovative with a baseball game; they are going for simple fun, just like with Mario Golf, Mario Tennis and Mariokart. Yes they are fun games, but they aren't innovative.

Besides, the argument of saying that they've never done it before is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I've never made a game. Ever. So if I make a baseball game does that make it an innovative one? Does that make me an innovator? No, no it doesn’t.

NINTENDO ISN'T MAKING THIS GAME. They're farming it out. It could be the most innovative game since pong and it wouldn't do dick in Nintendo's favor because it's not their ball. So Nintendo still loses.

Halo Baseball? As long as I can play as a Covenant Grunt, I'm down. I'd imagine they would be really good at running the bases, but terrible in the outfield.

As was summarized by the first reply to this thread, no matter how the game turns out, it's still baseball. So, in my irrelevant opinion, no.
Or is it that you feel an innovative company must be innovative with EVERY single game it ever releases?
    Listen:
If Nintendo is going to make a big stink about how there is a lack of innovation, any upcoming products they're responsible for had better set an example of how they project videogames should be made or possess said innovation. Otherwise they're self-contradictory.

If they're going to continue this stance of doom about no innovation and a crisis, they should stick to their guns and develop software that meets their own standards and show other videogame companies by example how games should be made.

Otherwise they should shut the fuck up and let the cash from their cows speak for itself.

    Wario Ware is fucking awesome.

Sucks that it's getting milked just like everything else Nintendo does.

Well, the new Wario Ware GBA & DS games seem pretty novel, moreso than most sequels anyway. The only real milking was that cheapo GC port of the first game.

Yeah, and even that was pretty enjoyable. W00t Wario Ware!

Miyamoto said that Mario Baseball was a joint development between Namco and Nintendo, but that could very well mean "we let Namco use our characters in their new baseball game."

I joked about it before, but I have a hard time seeing how Namco and Nintendo can make this game innovative. I'm sure it'll be fun, but I agree with everyone that said this game should really be Nintendo Baseball. If anything needed a Smash Bros treatment, it's definitely baseball (Team Kirby vs. Team Icarus would have been awesome).

  8. You can't base the innovative argument on just one game. have you never heard of the DS? Nintendo has been touting about the innovations in that handheld so maybe that is what they think will help the industry. They started the whole lack of innovation argument right after they announced a new handheld. Nintendo is not dumb enough to think releasing mario baseball will be considered innovative.

Look at all that Nintendo is doing and not just one game that we all now will be the same old non-innovative ,but fun mario sports game.

  9. What innovations would those be? The ones in PDA's 3 years ago?

  10. You know they were 3d movies before the PS1 so I guess they were no innovation in PS1 games.
