Why is it innovative when these games introduce new elements to their respective series, but when Wind Waker included sailing it was just a gimmick? Personally, I thought the sailing completely changed the feel of the overworld, and although it's true WW felt the same as ever on land, you spent a good portion of the game on the ocean.

WW was rushed and could have been better, but the sailing aspect of it was certainly a big change, just like the Groundhog Day aspect of Majora's Mask altered how that game was played as well.

A series isn't going to completely change its play mechanics after every new iteration.

  3. Sailing sucked.

As I aluded to a second ago, old school Nintendo is fine. They're been plugging away at excellent GBA games all generation, though I'd agree EAD's gone down the shitter. But then, EAD =/= Nintendo.
Uhh, I wouldnt call most of those GBA games "excellent", but Ive talked about that before. But needless to say, Ive grown up from 2D 16-bit games, and if Nintendo hasn't grown up with me, well thats why they lost me as a fan and consumer of their products.

I don't. But since we don't know anything about it we probably shouldn't be talking about it. That's my point.

You are the only person in the entire world that thinks that.

The additions to the other games are all additions that make sense in terms of the game's design and add features that players have either asked for or features that add to the gameplay and advance it.

Sailing was just added because it could be. I really don't know anyone that asked to play a game where you sail. And if someone did ask for that, I'm sure they asked for more than going in a straight line and dodging giant octopi.

Fair enough... were you fan of Nintendo's N64 games then?

    Sorry, you're wrong again.

Well really, sailing was just a novel tool used to enable travel across the remade Ocean gameworld. The design shift actually came in part due to fan request too, they wanted an empahsis on "old-school" exploration and didn't want the branching "hub" of Hyrule Field or Clocktown. Siling wasn't at all "just added because it could be", plenty of thought went into TTW's design.

Now there's some fundamental flaws in TWW's excecution sure but in concept it perfectly fits your above criteria. If the game was given a year long delay for polishing and adding those extra dungeons as Ocarina of Time enjoyed, I'm sure we'd have gotten a much better Zelda.

  7. Why the fuck should they grow up. I just don't understand why people need to feel "mature" when they play games. Especially when playing games is still considered childish in american culture.

  8. Fair enough... were you fan of Nintendo's N64 games then?
Somewhat. I really liked Mario 64, Waverace 64, and Mario Kart, and Mario Tennis was okay. I didnt care for Ocarina of Time or Paper Mario or F-Zero X. I hated Majora's Mask and Super Smash Bros. So it was lukewarm. But nowadays, forget about it.

Why the fuck should they grow up.
More people over the age of 21 are playing videogames than under 21. This is a trend that is showing no signs of stopping. People over 21 have more money to spend on videogames than people under 21. As the gaming industry grows older, and it is, then it doesnt take a genius to see what the problem is with Nintendo targetting 11 year olds. Their platforms are selling less than ever, and their big franchises are selling less than ever. Their market and fanbase is shrinking. This will not change until they actually start to make games to appeal to more people... and let me tell you, fucking Mario Baseball isn't gonna do it. All they make now is fanservice.

  9. jarrod, I went to gamerankings and did a search for the top 30 games made by Nindendo on the GC. Animal Crossing was 12th, So that means that atleast 18 games Nintendo mde on GC were inferrior to Animal Crossing, not to mention the ones that didn't make the top 30.

But please, continue to tell my how it's the worst game Nintendo did this generation.

I really don't care about throwing up Gamerankings, but you're absolutly wrong if you say I'm alone in thinking it's Nintendo worst game this generation (and possibly ever). Hell, I even know a few people who agree with me.

Animal Crossing is an abortion in terms of game design, typifying everything that's wrong with Nintendo (EAD) these days. It's the antithesis of fun, in fact it's mindless work mechanics wise.
