No. I see no connection.
Great thread, BTW. You really know how to attract the crowds.

Quake's single player sucks, it always has sucked, and it always will suck. Normally I don't care about graphics in a game this much, but was it too much to ask to have more than four textures in the entire goddamn game?
I also wasn't too crazy when Doom 2 had dozens of enemies at any given time, and Quake had three enemies on screen at once, tops.

I've only played Quake online a few times in my life, but I've sunk endless hours into the single player. The environments were as varied as any other FPS out at the time, excpet maybe Duke3D. Each episode had a different feel, and all the levels were still distinct and instantly recognizeable.Originally Posted by sethsez
I mean really, graphics are the last thing I could imagine to complain about in Quake. There is NOTHING else that came out in 1995 that still looks so good today. When Quake came out it was absolutely staggering, every bit as much so as when doom came out in 1993.I think you've confused Quake for Doom 3 or something... The enemy counts were pretty comperable in Doom and Quake. There were parts where you'd get bum-rushed by a pack of 6 hell knights.Originally Posted by sethsez
Quake was actually faster and more action packed than Doom was (which is saying something) because the enemies could get you from more directions due to their different attack patterns. You'd get some wizards flying around shooting you with clouds while a couple ogres have you dancing beteen grenades and a hell knight or zombie soldier and it'd get pretty intense.

Quake 1 multiplayer is still fucking amazing. Especially if you have a fucking shiat load of mods.
But I prefer UT2K4.
