Thread: Washington Post calls GameCube obsolete.

  1. If online play defines what's obsolete then videogame consoles have always been (and still are) obsolete because of PC's.

From a technical standpoint the PS2 should be obsolete, it's a big step down from Cube and Xbox. If you tried running something like Chronicles of Riddick or Metroid Prime 2 on PS2, that thing would break down faster than if someone...um......played anything on it?

  2. Online isn't really a consideration for me, if I do multiplayer it's with people in the same room. I know everyone else likes this whole "internet" thing for gaming but I've never gotten the taste for it, so Nintendo's online philosophy of "why bother?" is fine by me. And yes, I do know Nintendo claims they're philosophy is "People don't want online play" but companies lie. It's what they do whether it's Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo.

As for Renderware I'll grant the point, but in my defense my last Renderware game was Burnout 3 on X-Box, so last I saw it looked really sharp. Also, it's not Rockstar but DMA who can't do graphics to save their life. Body Harvest (got a kick out of that mission title in San Andreas) and Space Station Silicon Valley were two of the uglies games on N64, so it seems to be a tradition.

Still, when I think of PS2 I think of muddy textures and mitten hands, despite the graphical genius of the infrequent Ratchet & Clanks and... whatever else looks really sharp.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Indeed. However, practically all of DMA games have kept me amused; even SSSV, with the fatal glitch that made it unfinishable. The fact their graphics are generally sub-par is a non issue...

Damn, I just wanted to say that.

Dont judge system just because of GTA game look. There are many other titles (especially from Konami like MGS3) that show that PS2 can show some awesome sights.

  6. All consoles are clearly obsolete, with a diminishing supply of new titles. Buy a DS or wait for PSP, handhelds are the future.

So yeah, they are wrong when they called it the PS2's equal.
Obvious to who, Halo 2 fanboys? The PS2 line up has and remains stronger than the Xbox. And if you want to go by sales figures...

Eh, I like online PC games and online console games, and by console I mean Xbox and only Xbox.

Reasons: Voice chat for almost every user, crucial in certain games. No 56K bitches.
