Of course it's a marketing tool. So what?
This idea that if someone is in the business of furthering capitalism by selling a product they're not to be trusted would be laughable if it weren't so prevalent. The whole issue of 'selling out' ought to be complete and utter crap for anyone who is no longer 16 and has a job.
Ppl do this w/their fav indie band all the friggin' time. Why? B/c they're insecure and their (the fan's) self-esteem takes a hit when they have to share something they thought was their own (as tho they owned the band) w/ppl they don't like (see: the way 16yo emo kids go ballistic when 'their' band signs w/a major).
Slip and the rest of you are doing the same thing here. "Boo-hoo. Frag Dolls are popular. There must be something wrong w/them...but I can't think of anything legit so...Oh! They're too good looking, or (omgNOES!) they're getting paid."
They're getting paid? Grow up. The FD in the earlier quote had it right. Most of us would kill to work in this industry.
So to all you haters: Shut your hypocritical mouths and unplug your k/b right now. Don't begrudge others their success.
