Thread: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Eh the first wonka movie had a moral tacked onto it too. It had that entire thing about loyality and not selling people out.

  2. Frito: You probably weren't high.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

There was some annoying little bitch of a teenager in front of us who obviously was high. He had this stupid high pitched laugh and he laughed at everything. He thought the stupid Ice Age preivew was a comedic gift from the gods.

  4. Saw this earlier tonight (last night?) and it was amazing. It followed the book so well (unlike the first SHITTY movie) and Depp did an awesome job as Wonka. It was way better then I expected it to be, and I had high expectations. I loved every minute of it and was laughing throughout pretty much the entire movie.

And the Oompa Loompa songs rocked. What's even better is that they were written by Roald Dahl, but I can't remember which songs (old movie or new movie) were in the book.

Well then I can't really vouch for him, but it probably had more to do with him being a teenager than being high.

I wonder if Mike TeeVee post here. He acted and looked like your typical TNLer.

  7. Was this a bad movie? No.
Was it as good as the orignal? Not even close.

With that said, this was a pretty decent movie. I enjoyed the visual style of film and I thought Depp did a decent job with it. I'm no Johnny Depp fan, but I liked him in this. His interactions with the kids were great, and he just looked really cool during most of his scenes. I did't care for the oompa loompas though, their songs were shitty and I couldn't even make out what the fuck they were singing half the time. The best of the kids was Augustus, the way he looked during his first scene was great.

The one thing that bothered me about this movie was the ending, it dragged on for too long. Plus, this movie sorely needed that scene from the first film when Wonka starts shouting "YOU LOSE!" right in Charlie's face. Best scene ever.

Oh, and the glass elevator scene was like Magrathia in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie, but not as cool looking. I'd also like to note that I love seeing that guy who played tech support in vanilla sky and Wolladarsky in The Life Aquatic, I think he's an interesting actor.

There really was a volume problem with the vocals in the Oompa loompa songs, which really sucked. That said, their songs were the best part of the movie. I need this soundtrack.

I really agree with this. I haven't read the book, so maybe it was the same way, but the ending felt so anti-climatic. In the original movie, it was clear that Charlie's good qualities showed that he was the child who should take over the factory. In the new one, he was offered it simply because he was the last one standing. I know he was the last one because he was a good person, but it wasn't the same.

  9. Great movie. I loved this.
Although different from the original movie, it was more in tune with the book.
Tons of great lines and the music was awesome. The children character changes were a bit odd. Veruca Salt wasn't exactly that bad until the squirrel part. She seemed like a moderately spoiled girl.
I defintely liked how Augustus was made to seem much more unrelenting in his task of eating in the waterfall room.
Mike TV was merely upgraded to suit nowadays standards. Pretty much he was diffusionx.

I loved the history behind the Wonka character and the Oompa Loompas. In the first movie he just mentions these things. In this one, you actually get to see them. Very cool.
The different ending altogether was interesting but I realized it would be different as they didn't sign a contract at the start nor did they get bribed. Also, once the factory plot was done the whole movie was different. I liked the interaction between Wonka and his dad. It just added a bit more depth to the character. Not to mention making Charlie's dad a toothpaste worker and Wonka's dad a Dentist were awesome ideas that tied right into the movie.

Overall I really loved this movie. It was a visual delight and I will probably see it again. I wonder if there will be an extended cut. It seemed like there was a few scenes that were either gone or cut short. Like that coat scene. Just drop them anywhere seemed a little short! Oh well.

Great movie. Go see it! Depp is awesome in it.

    WoooW!

  10. I heard their was a Wilder cameo in this ala, the Charleston Hesteon one in planet apes.. in info on this..
