Thread: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

  1. Haha, Dole has no soul.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

It came across to me as though he had created this own personal world of his and it baffled him as to how anyone could question it, so each time the children said something was stupid or impossible he wasn't always sure how to react. I rather liked that, really.

I also thought it was really funny watching the credits and seeing Danny Elfman as the singer for all (except one, IIRC) of the songs.

I actually have a group of those keeping watch over my house. Don't mess with my home.

This movie was really fucking awesome. Enjoyed every minute of it. However, some of the cg was crap. Especially the blueberry girl tumbling at the end. Ugh.
I took all your French Toast.

  4. I'm going to have to watch this movie again, because I didn't reallly give it a fair chance.

I have to admit, I watched the original again the night before I went and saw this one. My mind kept drifiting off the entire time because I was comparing everything I saw on screen to the original. Charlie has a dad? No Slugworth? Grampa Joe can walk? I kept thinking to myself, "No, that's not how it's supposed to happen..."

That was because I thought this was a remake of the original movie, and upon further research, I now know that this was closer to the book, and how I guess it "should have been" in the first place.

  5. I'm watching Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as I type this. I never remembered this movie being so hilarious back when I was a kid. I don't think I appreciated just how much comedic gold an english professor being bested by a smart alec computer was. Did the remake have any funny stuff like that in it?

Yeah, it seems like the point of this movie was to be more faithful to the book, so all these complaints about it "not being true to the original" just aren't fair at all.

  7. I really liked it. Incredible set design and an awesome cast. I think it stands very well on it's own, right next to the Wilder version. I loved Depp as Wonka.

I didn't see the movie yet, but FWIW the lyrics were lifted word for word from the book.

  9. Anyone read the Entertainment Weekly article ont his? Great stuff. Tim Burton's producer said "When I asked Tim if he wanted me to watch the Gene Wilder movie first he practically jumped across the table and said NO!" haha Basically said Burton loathed the Wilder pic and wanted to make it much more like the book. I was only able to watch half of the movie when i was a kid until i begged my friend to put in some looney tunes instead. People turning into flying blueberries and a creepy tunnel, talk about a drug trip.

  10. I saw the movie and it was okay.. I dont know if anyone who's seen the original caught it but i like the little homage they did to the orginal, where they used the sound effects from the original in the invention room..
